No,” I say. “No. No. Don’t be stupid,” I say to him. “Don’t be ridiculous,” I say to him. “Don’t lie to me goddamn you,” but now my voice is high and broken and shaking and “No,” I gasp, “no, no, no—” One side effect of this is that throughout the book there are crossed out lines, as if Juliette is writing in a journal and crosses out things she initially wrote, but changed her mind.

Warner arrives in record time. He shows obvious concern and affection for Juliette which the others find astonishing but at the same time reassuring. He offers for them to come stay in his private training area on the compound. Reluctantly they agree. But nothing learned within the novellas is crucial to the plot of the main series. They’ll only provide extra details that make the novels more impactful.Juliette tells Adam to tell Warner that they’re brothers. There’s an argument, and when Adam acts like a prat, Juliette realises she can touch people without hurting them now. Oh, Tahereh Mafi. You made me cry. You made me laugh. You made me blush severely. You made me nervous. You also did not do what I thought you were going to do. Nope. I definitely went into Ignite Me with some pretty strong predictions for what was going to happen but neither of them happened. Kenji fills Juliette on on what’s been going on. He says he and the rest of the group tried to help the people at Omega Point, but it was kind of hopeless. They’re now staying in Adam’s apartment. Now she must rely on Warner. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world ... but that's not all he wants with her.

Warner and his servant, Delaleui, smuggle Juliette out of the compound. Warner takes her to Omega Point which is now nothing but a crater in the ground. They see Kenji there. Warner borrows Kenji’s invisibility power without even touching him. Warner allows Juliette to go with Kenji but gives her a panic button so she can call for help.I’m so, so sad to let this series go. I’m in denial. I loved Juliette’s story throughout and I was pleased with Ignite Me overall. I was happy with the resolution to some of the bigger plot lines (namely the romance because I just FELT it in my hearts of hearts and made the most sense to me despite me being Team NOBODY coming out of Unravel Me). There were a few things I didn’t find to be “perfect” but I was so immersed in the story/the writing that I didn’t care. The only exception to that is my feelings on the ending being pretty rushed. It was resolved but rushed and I can’t explain it without spoilers so I’m going to just stop now. Warner explains that the child used in the experiment was a simulation used to make Juliette angry. James asks Warner lots of questions like why he calls Juliette “love” and if he’s in love with her (which he doesn’t answer). He asks why Warner has the big house with lots of food and hot water. Warner tells him he works for the the Re-establishment. James is terrified. Warner tells him he is also working with the rebels to defeat the Re-establishment, which is punishable by death. Then Warner gets shaky.

The Shatter Me series is a YA Fantasy Romance. So let’s dissect that. First, Romance is an important aspect of the plot and it does contain romantic elements. But it’s also YA, or Young Adult, meaning that it’s meant for ages 13 to 17. Warner and Juliette have a bit of a moment, but Juliette doesn’t tell Warner she loves him so he gets a bit off with her. Afterward, the others start asking Juliette questions about the Supreme Commander, what he looks like and why his last name is different to Warner’s, what his first name is. She says she doesn’t know his first name. Adam says it’s Paris. Warner overhears and thinks Adam is a spy sent to kill him. How else could he know the man’s name? It’s a closely guarded secret. Juliette tells him that Adam and James are his brothers. He smiles. He stares until I’m blushing and I decide I hate him a little and then he shakes his head. Looks into his palms. “No,” he says. “The girls took care of that. I just carried you to bed.” Warner finally feels a bond with Adam because he knows his father abused him too. How does Ignite Me end?A sharp intake of breath and I’m awake but not up, surprised but not scared, somehow staring into the very desperately green eyes that seem to know too much, too well. Aaron Warner Anderson is bent over me, his worried eyes inspecting me, his hand caught in the air like he might’ve been about to touch me. People want to know about the Supreme Commander. Adam tells them his first name – Paris. Warner gets suspicious because no one is supposed to know his name. Juliette finally reveals that Adam and James are Warner’s brothers. Juliette tells Warner that Adam is coming and that Kenji told him she is still in love with him. Then she tells him she doesn’t love Adam and isn’t attracted to him anymore but is attracted to Warner.

Later she asks Warner just to be her friend while she works out her feelings. He says he has never had a friend and is not sure he can.Tahereh Mafi is a best-selling YA Fantasy author best known for the Shatter Me series. However, she’s also written other books like This Woven Kingdom and A Very Large Expanse of Sea. The latter was named one of the best YA books of all time by Time Magazine. A lot of readers find this rather annoying, but you get used to it as you go along. It’s much easier for me to deal with than when an entire book is written in a different dialect, like Goddess in the Machine. Who is Tahereh Mafi?
