The climbing routes vary from easy to hard, so you should choose your location based on skill level. All of the routes chosen here are a short walk away from a car park, ensuring that they are all easily accessible. Locations for beginners and children Burbage South Boulders The 3.5-mile edge offers over 2,000 climbing routes, making it an adventurous playground for climbers nationwide. With the ascent behind you, the path now meanders alongside the cliffs to the edge’s end, which is pretty flat. As mentioned above, the weather is a factor for choosing where and when to go, but only prolonged rain is likely to stop the determined. Generally October and November are the wettest months but can still offer great days with fantastic autumn colours. February is the best choice for the hardcore with a winning combination of little rainfall and low temps. At any time of year, a westerly or southerly breeze will soon dry the crag in only a couple of hours. Bouldering can be physically demanding and potentially dangerous. Always climb with a spotter or a pad for added safety. Assess risks, be mindful of your limits, and practice proper falling techniques to reduce the risk of injury.

During the 2 days you’ll try a selection of climbs and also learn a ‘toolbox’ of essential climbing techniques ready to progress your climbing in the future if you choose. History of the Peak District The Churnet valley is loads more popular these days than when I first went. The sectors are spread out across both sides of the valley and offer the opportunity to climb on conglomerate. You will find a decent variety of problems, in my opinion, it is the traverses that are the best. It's generally overhanging to a lesser or greater degree.

Most of the climbing is on slabs or verts, and the holds are mostly rounded, meaning that the area is much more suited to cool conditions when friction is higher. Most of the landings are fairly flat and there aren’t too many highballs, so the number of beginner climbs is much higher than most locations.Walking boots, approach shoes or sturdy trainers. The walk ins to crags is likely to be over challenging ground and it may be wet or muddy. Please also bring a set of waterproofs as the weather can change significantly over the course of a day. Count's Buttress and Enclosure areas are a little more broken and hence quieter, though worth exploring. Not far from the Burbage area, Higgar Tor offers highly varied bouldering within a very compact location. The jumble of boulders means that there are loads of problems to have a go at, but the landings are rarely flat so you’ll definitely want to go with a couple of pads and spotters.
