The severe cold began just before Christmas in 1962 as a high pressure system sat to the northeast of the UK for much of the winter, dragging cold polar winds over the UK. And some of our members have shared some tips and strategies that may help you if as we head into an uncertain winter. Keep to a routine Most people in Northern Norway feel that they need a little more sleep, and everyone tends to go to bed a little earlier. Otherwise, Northerners experience few problems in the dark months, and there is no noticeable increase in depression and alcohol abuse. In fact, we handle this period much better than people from southern climes would think – perhaps because we know that it doesn’t last all that long. Dark Winter is one of the three Winter seasons and sits between Dark Autumn and True Winter on the seasonal flow chart.

True Winters often (although definitely not always!) look like the ‘classic’ Winter - they can have very dark hair, fair skin and bright eyes. Their skin can be any colour, but that feeling of contrast generally remains - either between hair and skin tone, or between skin/hairs and bright whites of eyes and teeth. Cool Winter falls at the very coolest, most blue toned end of the Winter palette, and if you viewed all four seasonal palettes as one continuous spectrum of colour, the Cool Winter’s colours would fall nearer to Summer than to Spring or Autumn. Since True Winter’ main colour aspects are coolness and brightness, your worst colours are warm and muted. However, your best metals are cool, like silver and pewter. If you do want to wear gold, opt for a dark one that is not too yellow. Technically, you can combine any of the colours on the True Winter palette with each other. But certain combinations will look much better than others. Those are the combinations that repeat the contrast level that is naturally present in your appearance.
Typical for Winter colours, the palette is slightly higher in chroma, meaning the colours are somewhat saturated and bright. However, they are dark rather than very bright.

This means that although all of Deep Winter’s colours have coolness (blue) to them, they are beginning to acquire just a hint of that brown tone of Autumn.
