That response is very poor in high frequencies, dropping from 5 Khz on by as much as 5 to 7 dB. We should see a rule flat output. So better pair this with rather bright headphones to compensate. The first of them is a move to a Sabre ESS9018 DAC chip. The next one is the added Bluetooth connectivity that the original X6 didn’t possess. All the usual digital inputs are present too. To cut things short, here’s the full list of features: I don't know about you but to my eyes, there is no sine wave of any sort in the output of FX-Audio DAC-X6. It is dominated by noise and who knows what else (in red). The cyan one is from Topping D30 which takes the crown again as the best of the three. When someone asks me a question I do not understand, I replay with "Not sure" or "I do not understand".

If you look for the best DAC amp combo, I suggest you take a look at DAC-X6. Starting with a design, I have to affirm that its styling is great and comfortable. It hasn’t unnecessary decorations and furnishes, the whole device looks smooth and simple. Also, when you do your listening tests, are you doing them before the measurements to minimize bias? Front panel buttons are old fashioned toggle switches but they have a solid, reassuring feel. There is an on/off switch which I like and a button for selecting one of the three inputs.

It might change. But it could also be an issue only way to find out really is to plug a high ish impedance headphone into it. If you can I would return it and buy something more suited to lower impedance gear. IMO the only reason to buy the dac x6 these days is if you want to drive a 250 ohm Beyer for cheaply Here we see declining harmonic distortion which is good (compared to Fiio E10k) but there is a rise in noise floor proportional to frequency after 16 Khz or so. If anyone wants to review my files, I uploaded the recordings at https://nilsschneider.de/temp/whitenoise_test_dac_x6.zip That is an interesting find. Definitely an attempt to copy one another. Who came first is had to tell. As is knowing which is better without a bench test.

FX Audio DAC-X6 review - Prime Audio Reviews

Volume control has about 90+ steps. Unit appears to have an optical encoder with maybe 30 steps per revolution. You have to spin the knob a LOT to raise and lower volume. PRE OUT and headphone out use same volume setting. This alone make the unit a mess. Good to hear all of your opinions of the X6 here. For a newbie like me, it's certainly comforting to know that I'm hearing what others are hearing. Fyi, I've switched from the Dac-X6. I found my laptop onboard actually had better mid's and high's. For the price yes it is quite incredible as you get an excellent case and plenty of juice to power HD6XX, but the clarity just wasn't there.I am going to present this in two parts. First part in this post is the usual set that you see from me. For the second part, since this DAC has S/PDIF input, I thought I use that on it, Topping D30 and Exasound E32 to run a full suite of measurements. This is made possible by my Audio Precision Analyzer controlling the source signal which is not (easily) possible using the USB port (newer versions of AP support PC control but only using ASIO and not WASAPI). To make sure the data is not overwhelming, I will put these extra measurements in follow on posts.

Compare X6’s line-outs to something like Topping E30 and the latter shows a bit more tone richness and subtlety. DAC X6 is a bit rough around the edges but not that far behind really. More important: it does not sound good to my ears. Harsh and messy with voices (even level and FR-matched).It doesn't show up as well in the picture but that entire side is rusty red. Components like this would not rust so fast so my suspicion is that this is a used switch that lost its good life in another component. Or alternatively it is a poor quality switch as to rust so easily. There also a Dilvpoetry one like the original. There are some difference. Dilvpoetry also made this revamped version. Noise floor is too high when used with 32 ohm in ear monitors. Not usable for any in ear monitor. Topping L30 amp was dead quite when used with same monitor. Now I realise that this must be, for sure, transformer hum, as both these amps have theirs onboard (two, in the case of the H10). But, the X6's is external.

FX-Audio DAC-X6 Review – The Nerdy Student

Layering is good and the sound-stage is respectably wide, but the upfront presentation doesn’t convey much depth. That’s perfectly fine in my book as no device near this price can’t really do much stage depth either. It is one thing pulling parts but the logistics involved in sorting salvaged parts from a myriad assortment of PCBs for reliable bulk supply of specific items for production are surely too costly and such parts would be out of dimensional spec. and not clean enough for automated placement. The FX Audio DAC-X6 is a Digital Audio Decoder and amplifier with multiple input options and a budget-friendly price. When I switched to the E10k and activated the bass boost switch the E10k actually did give more oomph and bass to the headphones. (For example explosions in games)I've never tried this, and someone, who knows better, might comment and put me right, But, I have reasonable certainty. Here's an example: most computer's audio output can be used for 'phones (they're marked as such), or for connecting to a speaker system, or any analogue audio inputs, really. Comparing the X6 with my 'proper rig', what i did notice is that the X6 is inferior in just about every way. But this is to be expected; I've got a little bit of pride, about my set up. Particularly the source. On the other hand, its physical build is far better than the Fiio E10 and even Topping D30. And its headphone output which never gets distorted regardless of its dial position, is able to drive difficult headphones like the Sennheiser HD650. I have the FX-Audio X6 mkII. I find it to be quite good. I also have the X6 version 1 without bluetooth and the O2 dac/amp from mayflower. Amp: ZeroZone KSA5 (KG Krell klone) , HLLY RMK5 (Beyer A1 clone) , FX-Audio DAC-X6; prev: Gustard H10
