Description

L'esperança de vida del cocodril del Nil és als 70-100 anys, arribant a la maduresa sexual al voltant dels 10 anys. On viu el cocodril del Nil

The Nile crocodile is one of the most dangerous species of crocodile and is responsible for hundreds of human deaths every year. [15] It is common and is not endangered, despite some regional declines or extirpations in Maghreb. Size greatly varies among species, from the dwarf crocodile to the saltwater crocodile. Species of the dwarf crocodile Osteolaemus grow to an adult size of just 1.5 to 1.9m (4.9 to 6.2ft), [24] whereas the saltwater crocodile can grow to sizes over 6m (20ft) and weigh over 1,000kg (2,200lb). [25] Several other large species can reach over 5.2m (17ft) long and weigh over 900kg (2,000lb). Crocodilians show pronounced sexual dimorphism, with males growing much larger and more rapidly than females. [20] Despite their large adult sizes, crocodiles start their lives at around 20cm (7.9in) long. The largest species of crocodile is the saltwater crocodile, found in eastern India, northern Australia, throughout South-east Asia, and in the surrounding waters.Crocodilian Species - Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus)". Osteolaemus tetraspis, dwarf crocodile (There has been controversy as to whether or not this is actually two species; recent (2010) DNA analysis indicate three distinct species: O. tetraspis, O. osborni and a third, currently unnamed.) A small to medium sized crocodile with a rather broad snout. It has a dark greyish-brown colour and is found in mostly various freshwater habitats. Feeds on mammals, birds and reptiles. It is listed as Least Concern.
