Description

For CES 2023 Asus are today announcing a couple of new models in their professionally focused ProArt series. There’s the PA32DCM, a 31.5″ OLED display with a 4K resolution, and the PA279CRV, a 27″ LCD model. Both are aimed at professional users, content creation and have a focus on productivity and colour accuracy. Asus ProArt Display OLED PA32DCM specs You can use and disable local dimming in both SDR and HDR. Further, local dimming, HDR and VRR can be used at the same time.

There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen.

Versatile comfort with ergonomic stand design

Overall, thanks to the monitor’s wide DCI-P3 color gamut and increased HDR brightness, some users might prefer HDR image quality over SDR, but this will come down to your personal preference and the content’s HDR implementation. Further, the monitor has extensive connectivity options, including a USB hub, DP-out for daisy-chaining, integrated speakers and a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode and up to 96W Power Delivery. Dimensions, weight and color Information about the dimensions and the weight of the specific model with and without stand as well as the colors, in which it is offered to the market. Width The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10.

The PA279CRV goes beyond industry standards to deliver 99% DCI-P3, 99% Adobe RGB, and 100% sRGB coverage. Paired with 10-bit colour depth, this monitor provides users with more than 1.07 billion onscreen colours, bringing even the smallest details to light. Each ProArt display is also factory pre-calibrated using a three-scale process to guarantee industry-leading colour fidelity. Thanks to stringent testing, the PA279CRV is designed to ensure smoother colour gradations, better uniformity, and high colour accuracy with a Delta E < 2 colour difference. Impeccable Display We changed red gain to 47, green to 48 and blue to 45 to get a color temperature of 6469K. After calibration, we also got a lower average Delta E of 0.4 and a maximum of 1.5, while the gamma follows the sRGB tone curve accurately. We used a brightness setting of 31 to get 120-nits.The Asus ProArt PA279CRV has a comprehensive factory calibration report, so it's no surprise that it looks great out of the box. That applies to whatever the color mode you select, be that Adobe RGB, DCI-P3, and the rest. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. Information about the minimum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. Very often the manufacturer provides the response time for transition from grey-to-grey (G2G).

The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. Information about the brightness of the screen. It is measured in candela per square metre (cd/m²). This is a smaller model at 27″ in size but offers the same 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution. This is a traditional LCD offering instead of OLED, being built around an IPS-type panel. It is Calman Verified and factory calibrated to Delta E < 2 color accuracy, and features 99% DCI-P3 and 99% Adobe RGB color gamut. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively.

The stand design also allows for a wide range of positions with 150mm of height adjustment and 180-degree rotation, a 35/5 degree down and up tilt, and up to 45-degrees of pivot left and right. Information about the maximum horizontal viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. Designed for discerning creative professionals, ProArt Display OLED PA32DCM features a 31.5″ sized 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, pure RGB Stripe OLED panel. Anyway, whatever you're using to drive the Asus ProArt PA279CRV, you get lovely, accurate colours and plenty of pop thanks to 400 nits of brightness. This isn't a gaming display, but the pixel response is plenty good enough. As for refresh rate, it's limited to 60Hz, which is largely the norm for this class of productivity panel. Obviously, support for 120Hz or 144Hz would be nice, but it's hardly central to the remit here.
