Description

Little David grew up in Leicester on the campus of a university, where his father was a professor. As a child, he spent hours in the science library, collating his own specimens and creating a mini animal museum. When he was old enough to go to university, he studied science and zoology – but what he wanted most of all was to be close to the animals he was studying. David Attenborough has narrated and presented numerous award-winning documentaries, bringing the wonders of nature to millions of viewers worldwide. These colouring sheets contain pictures from the Little People, Big Dreams series. These series contain autobiographical tales of well-known inspirational figures. You can use these books in your lessons to teach children about different famous figures throughout history. Take a look at our full range of Little People, Big Dreams resources here. Children can use this beautifully illustrated template to plan their interview with David Attenborough and note down each question.

I had this book thrust upon me by an enthusiastic seven year old and while it works as a brief introduction to Sir David Attenborough's life and achievements, the illustrations created more questions than answers. After introducing children to Sir David Attenborough with the Little People, Big Dreams book, you can use this activity to plan an interview with him! If your learners had the opportunity to meet Sir David, what would they like to ask him? Children can use this beautifully illustrated template to plan their interview and note down each question. Afterwards, why not research each question and answer them from his point of view? The primary reason for this was the cute, but impractical rendition of various animals displaying anthropomorphic behaviours, such as "reading" notes. We probably spent longer discussing this than the rest of the book, which is a shame.

Who is David Attenborough?

Another great addition to my favourite series 'Little People, Big Dreams' which introduces young readers to lives of outstanding and inspiring people. David Attenborough by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another charming entrant to the Little People BIG DREAMS series that has become a must read for me. This is a wonderful series that excels at educating, as well as entertaining, both young and old with an impressive collection of notable figures of the past and present who have made a significant contribution to their chosen field. Sir David Attenborough is an English writer and naturalist. He has spent more than 60 years producing nature shows. He created his first nature show in 1954. It was a television series called Zoo Quest which featured live animals that were filmed in the wild and in zoos. He then was given control of BBC 2 and later served as the director of television programming at the BBC. He has explored remote and breathtaking locations, from the depths of the oceans to the peaks of mountains, to document the diversity of life on Earth.
