A superb guide for everyone from the entomological generalist to the interested with an enquiring mind. John Badmin, British Journal of Entomology and Natural History "This, the latest in the WILDGuides series, is a masterful exercise in clarity, clear design and will get you to the right identification of the species you are looking at. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

My overall feeling is that Britain's insects is very good value for money but should be regarded as an introduction to the subject. The emphasis is on their lifestyle, flight periods and the habitats they are found in (including gardens) plus tips on identification. Find out how the birds are attracted, the magic of 'chum' (without the smell) and some of my most exhilarating birding moments ever, including an epic encounter with a Fea's Petrel. Most insects begin life as eggs laid singly or in batches, but some insects like aphids are born as young nymphs, often without the female having mated beforehand.

This talk looks at the whole trip, from getting the camera gear safely through customs, a few mishaps and of course the amazing birds and other highlights as I travelled through three states! It is a ‘must have’ for everyone with a general interest in insects and I’m sure it will sneak into the libraries of quite a few seasoned experts too!

was a phenomenal year featuring opportunistic travels to all parts of the UK, record breaking numbers of local birds, rarities and a twitch or two. It's not just about the birds either with Dolphins and Sunfish on offer plus some of the Blue Sharks landed for tagging studies. A comprehensive book packed with rich colour photos and infographics that explains all the main wasp families in detail .A similar talk to 'Birding through a lens' but dealing with a wide variety of wildlife found in the UK. In my opinion, such a book should be able to introduce a reader who is unfamiliar with invertebrates to the diversity of our insect fauna and ignite their curiosity. Larger groups of organisms have been taken on, such as the spiders, where 440 of the 680 species are dealt with, the missing 240 species belonging to the Linyphiidae (the tiny money spiders that require microscopic examination), and birds, where 631 species are dealt with. However, the majority of them struggle to not only cover most of the main groups, but also they can be misleading, not sharing the other possibilities which the book wasn’t able to cover.

The importance of fieldcraft and the best approach to watching them, with tips on photography is covered.

Shropshire is certainly not one of the best Counties for migrants and rarities but expect a few surprises. There's too many species to list here but be assured the best of the images obtained during the year will be featured - from common residents to mazing rarities. The story of 2014 which saw me travel the length and breadth of the UK to seek out rarities and breeding birds. It needs people on the ground with knowledge and passion, who see the hidden worlds around them and fight for what they love.

The same seasonal approach but with a different range of birds commonly found including yet more rarities and excitement!Birds continue to arrive in the UK from more northerly regions to spend the next few months here in our warmer winters, before. Birds, butterflies and dragonflies are the key players with a scattering of other interesting guests and a flower or two!
