Description

Got a bottle of creme de cacao in your liqueur cabinet? Now’s the time to put it to delicious use. Here are all the best creme de cacao drinks that you should try:

Maison Briottet is a family business, founded in 1836, and has been run by the 6th generation of the Briottet family, Claire and Vincent, since 2014. The Maison is located in the centre of the town of Dijon in the Burgundy wine-growing region. Originally, the family were negociants of Burgundy wine, involved with ageing, blending, bottling and selling the wines. Following the development, and massive popularity of the Blanc Cassis Aperitif (white wine with Crème de Cassis also known as a Kir), in the 1900s, the company progressively focused its activities on producing fruit crèmes, liquors, brandies and Marcs de Bourgogne. White creme de cacao is produced using a distillation method. Cacao beans are soaked in a mixture of water and alcohol in a distillation still. Creme de cacao is one of the oldest known liqueurs, originating in France in the late 16th century. We say: Cream and a touch of rich dark chocolate smooth scotch whisky and gin without smothering them. This may be a creamy drink but it remains 'serious' and far from being a sweetie. We say: This shaken recipe includes orange juice and this gives the otherwise anaemic looking drink its namesake golden hue. The addition of orange bitters helps balance the drink and boost the orange flavour.

Review and Tasting

One way to make this amazing liqueur is similar to how you usually make coffee—through the percolation process. However, there is a slight difference between this liqueur and your favorite morning elixir. When you fill the filter with cacao beans, you drip alcohol into it rather than water.

Non-Alcoholic Chocolate Powder – This is a perfect substitute for the chocolate liqueur . Simply mix together powdered white chocolate, water, powdered sugar, and non-alcoholic vanilla. To achieve the right consistency, add enough amount of the liquid ingredient until the mixture is viscous enough. White creme de cacao is sweet, with a strong milk chocolate flavor and vanilla notes. The dark variety is sweet with a richer, dark chocolate flavor. Are there any substitutes?Creme de cacao is a unique liqueur that’s worth seeking out. In a pinch, you could use any type of chocolate liqueur or even Kahlua, though Kahlua is coffee flavored. Why we like it We say: It's not sweet, but it wavers on the sweet side of balanced, so I'd recommend enjoying after a meal. We say: White crème de cacao's sweetness is balanced by dry sherry and the acidity of Sauvignon Blanc wine which also adds grassy floral notes.Despite its name, it contains no cream. The “creme” refers to its smooth, syrupy texture due to its high sugar content.
