Description

The Motorola Moto G82 runs Android 12 and uses the classic Moto interface. This makes fairly light changes to the Google blueprint, meaning you get to see the changes made to Android’s Material Design style in version 12. To start with, there's a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display with a circle-shaped cutout and 120Hz refresh rate. Then, there's the Snapdragon 480+ processor, a 5000mAh battery, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

It is an entry-level 5G phone using the Qualcomm SDF+480+ SoC. Nothing is wrong with it, but nothing is outstanding, either. The camera setup that is the staple of the Motorola GX2 series includes a 50MP 1/2.76" f/1.8 main camera, aided by an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro shooter. We are, interested to see how the budget 50MP sensor performs compared to competitors using the larger 64MP and 48MP sensors.Ultra-wide: S8MP sensor: Good colour and details/ although you can tell it is a different sensor to the primary.

Justifying its price compared to the now-discounted Moto G62 5G will likely be the biggest struggle for the G53, as the other specifications are either the same or slightly inferior. The battery is 5,000mAh, but fast charging is only 10W, compared to the G62 5G’s 15W, and while the 6.5in display has a 120Hz refresh rate, it only has an HD+ resolution. The main camera is again a 50MP sensor, though the superfluous 2MP macro lens has been dropped, folding those duties into the 8MP ultrawide lens. Dark <40 lumens: The standard (not night mode) has adequate details, although there is some noise and the monitor screen is blown out. Finally, the G62 has Moto Gestures, which are also Moto mainstays. You can, for example, turn the torch on by karate chopping in the air with the phone in-hand twice. Or flip the phone over onto its screen when on a flat surface to enable the Do Not Disturb mode. You can expect to have 20-30% charge left by the end of a day of moderate use, which is what we typically saw when not playing games on the Moto G62 for any significant time. Very light users may be able to squeeze two days out of a charge, but we don’t think that is realistic if you tend to watch YouTube on your phone, or spend time scrolling through social media apps. Bear in mind, though, that Fortnite is one of the most challenging mobile games to run, and the majority of casual titles will run perfectly well. There’s a lot of room for them too. The phone has 128GB storage, where some Samsungs that retail near the price only have 64GB to work with.

The Motorola Moto G62 5G provides an ideal balance between price and features

The Moto G62 comes in a standard retail box with the usual user manuals along with the USB-A to USB-C charging cable and the power adapter output up to 15W. It's not much, but the phone can't go higher anyway, so you won't be missing on anything. The Motorola Moto G82 5G has a 5,000mAh battery, the same capacity seen in a large and ever-increasing number of Moto-series phones. However, it’s good to see this capacity retained when this is a slightly slimmer handset than plenty of others in the Moto G family. The Motorola Moto G82 5G has a 6.6-inch 120Hz screen with an OLED panel. It’s the spec you ideally want to see at this price, for the best contrast and color available in an affordable phone.
