Description

This typically makes a nice, slightly brown Painkiller. The Pusser’s Rum will be enough to cut through the sweetness, without being too overpowering. If you’d like a less boozy painkiller, simply reduce the amount of rum. Step 4: Add Your Painkiller Mix You can totally make this Painkiller recipe portable and pre-make a mix that is easily transportable to the beach. To do this, simply make Painkiller mix in bulk as instructed above, portion out the amount of mix you want to bring, and add your rum in advance. Pineapple and orange juice — If you wish, try using tropical juice instead of pineapple juice; something like mango, papaya, or maybe even guava juice would all do fine. And when it comes to orange juice, if you’d set your mind on finding a substitute, this time we’d recommend another citrus juice such as grapefruit, mandarin, and tangerine.

The Dark expression is a blend of Caribbean distillates from Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Barbados aged in American oak casks. The classic recipe for this painkiller drink combines Pusser’s Rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cream of coconut poured over crushed ice. The finishing touch is a garnish of nutmeg, preferably freshly grated. Take a few sips and your soggy sorrows will melt away! Instructions: Combine all the ingredients in your shaker with ice. Shake well and pour into your tiki mug with ice. Garnish it with a mint sprig, if desired. Dirty Banana is perfect for anyone who loves the booze of aged rum, coffee liqueur, and flavors of bananas and half-a-half. The nose is light and authentic. I’m getting an admittedly mostly column distilled type of lighter Caribbean rum but I am not nosing anything “suspicious” which might suggest additives of any kind. It’s clean and light with a nice balance of toffee, vanilla and some quite “fresh” smelling oak spices and a touch of nutmeg and ginger.Zombie Punch–is strong and mysterious. If you want the perfect booze by the beach, you better try this one. Instructions: Mix all the ingredients in your blender and blend. Pour into your glasses and garnish with fresh strawberries. Painkiller Martini — Although this is not exactly the original Soggy Dollar painkiller recipe, still, this one’s a pretty cool twist. Garnish with an olive and use tequila instead. Production details are limited, as Soggy Dollar is a blender, not a distiller, and the actual origins of these rums are unknown. A perfect summer drink, Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, is made with rum, sugar, and lime juice–one of the best thirst-quencher while at the beach.

If you’ve been there, you know many of the patrons come by boat and anchor just off the beach. To get to this Caribbean beach bar, they have to swim ashore arriving with wet dollar bills, thus the term “soggy dollar!” Pusser’s rum — Most painkiller recipes call for Pusser’s rum. It provides a dark, but rich flavor to your drink, as it blends in well with the other ingredients, most of them being fruit juices like pineapple and orange.Although 2 oz. is the standard amount of rum per serving, we prefer not to measure ours. Instead, we simply pour the rum about halfway up the ice.

Here is the original Painkiller recipe. If you can’t be in the islands, the next best thing is to make it at home!

Directions:

Outside of the Caribbean, the Painkiller is not a very common drink to find in bars. Most people haven’t heard of it unless they’ve been to the Virgin Islands. In fact, whenever I tell people about the Painkillers we love so much, I often find myself clarifying that it is the Painkiller drink, so they don’t awkwardly assume I’m talking about pills. How to Make a Pusser’s Rum Painkiller Tropical Bay Breeze is so easy to make; it’s also very refreshing and tastes like the tropics—a perfect drink on the hot beach.

Looking to remake those delicious Pusser’s Rum Painkillers that you had on vacation? Look no further! My husband and I have been drinking and making these beauties for years now, and have our process down pat for the perfect Painkiller recipe. It’s not particularly punchy or hefty but it’s a nicely balanced nose that doesn’t do much wrong to be fair. It doesn’t smell particularly old – I’d guess around 3-5 maybe lower in terms of the overall blend. It’s honest enough though and it isn’t a particularly pricy rum. Instructions: Pour all the ingredients into your blender, except the chunks, and blend until the mixture smoothens. Pour into your collins glass and garnish with banana chunks. Instructions: In your blender, mix the rums and strawberries and blend. Rinse your blender, and combine pineapple juice, banana, and coconut cream; blend well. Instructions: In your blender, blend all the ingredients until smooth. Pour in your glasses and garnish with grated nutmeg or shaved chocolate.

Quite what the actual components are in this rum? I’m not sure quite what the “triple distillation” has added is lost on me. It’s probably dulled the flavours a fair bit. It sounds good when used in Vodka terminology but it’s a big turn off for any flavourful spirit that doesn’t rely on tasting of nothing. The Pusser’s Painkiller entered my life about eleven years ago on my first ever trip to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. They are the signature drink of the Virgin Islands, and you will find a version at virtually every restaurant and bar down there.
