Description

The game is hard to qualify in a genre: while it seems at first a platform game, Dizzy is vulnerable to all enemies while unable to eliminate them, and puzzles are completed by bringing an object to a location (in the same fashion as Gods and adventure games), and also has to capture all 250 stars scattered in the game. The game can also be seen as a union of all the previous games where the player can find a lot of familiar puzzles (e.g. Elevators, magic beans) and places (e.g. mines, deep sea) as well has several arcade minigames based on older games in the series (like Bubble Dizzy). to browse the game map (Spectrum version). The Video Game Museum have screenshots of the ending screens for the C64 There are several places for Dizzy to visit, including the whole complex of the Yolkfolk secret treehouse, the mine, the neighbouring city of Keldor, a pirate ship, a castle, the grasslands, Carber Bay, the cemetery and finally Zaks' Cloud Castle.

Theodore's magic puzzle: The extra life minigame is a regular 4x4 shuffling puzzle, which has to be completed in inside a time limit. As the number of lives increase, so does the complexity of the puzzles. [8] Johnson, Jason (October 1993). "Fantastic Dizzy". Sega Pro. No.24. pp.50–51 . Retrieved 10 September 2021.

Castle Capers: A minigame based on the Operation Wolf concept, Dizzy, armed with a crossbow, has to get a 5 hit advantage over the trolls, who are occupying the castle. However, if the trolls get the same advantage, Dizzy loses a life. Strangely, it seems Dizzy himself is the only one unaffected, so it is up to him to gather the required stars, travel to Zak's castle, and save Daisy! Shades; Gunns (July 1992). They spent their days exploring the forest and mining diamonds to trade with the trolls in the neighbouring town of Keldor. The Mega Drive version has a secret bonus involving an item called “Prince’s Secret Sign”, which can only be found by giving the “Pigmy Cow” to Prince Clumsy after giving the “Gold Coin” to the Shopkeeper to obtain the “Green Bean”. The evil wizard Zaks has cast a spell on the peaceful Yolkfolk, and while many fell under his spell, others have other problems to deal with, including Dizzy, who saw his girlfriend Daisy kidnapped and taken hostage by Zaks, and it’s up to him to restore the Yolkfolk to normal and rescue Daisy from the top of the Cloud Castle’s tower. Bubble Trouble: Dizzy has to reach a small island before his oxygen wears out. To do so, he has to ride air bubbles formed in the sea bed, and jumping into the platforms in the sides or other bubbles before they burst. Larger bubbles endure more, but are slower, while smaller ones are fast but burst shortly after Dizzy rides them. This minigame was adapted into a standalone title, called Bubble Dizzy but due to further development required on Fantastic Dizzy and Dizzy Down the Rapids, Bubble Dizzy was released November 1990.

The encyclopedia of game cheats. A die hard gamer would get pissed if they saw someone using cheats and walkthroughs in Dizzy, the most heroic and famous of the Yolkfolk, lives a care-free existence with his friends and family. Or at least he did, until twisted wizard Zaks kidnapped his girlfriend, Daisy, and put various people under his mystic power. Being a fine, upstanding member of the community, not to mention a touch lonely without his missus, Dizzy intends to put matters right. Fantastic Dizzy (a.k.a. Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy) is one the few Dizzy games that were not released for the Spectrum, the system on which the series was well known. Instead, Fantastic Dizzy was first released on the NES, followed by the PC, Sega Master System, and Game Gear versions. It was also notable for being the last adventure-style Dizzy game ported to the PC (the series itself has one more adventure-style game, i.e. Dizzy The Adventurer, but that was the NES remake of Prince of The Yolkfolk, which was released earlier for the PC). We completed The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy in seven months, so far longer than we’d ever spent on a game before, so that it was ready for a Christmas release into America. Sadly, due to the legal battle that Nintendo and Galoob, Codemasters North American distributor were having over Game Genie, its release was delayed until November 1991. By this time attention was starting to shift to the 16-bit consoles - SEGA’s Megadrive (called Genesis in the US ) and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) which significantly damaged the sales potential. However, it was awarded NES Adventure Game of the Year by Game Players Magazine and given the coveted Parents Choice Award. N-Power reviewed it at 90% - the same as Super Mario Bros! Unfortunately you need the paid for Fuze software to play it, but they did say in the comments of the first video that it might be added to the free Fuze 4 Player gallery in the future.
