Description

These include reflections on his collaboration with mime artist Lindsay Kemp; the breakthrough tour of the USA; the massive sell-out UK tour that culminated in Ziggy's official retirement; and the recording of Pin Ups in Paris. Now, on the 50th anniversary of Bowie's acclaimed album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the book is available again. The trains themselves had such great names: Texas Chief, St Francisco Zephyr, Broadway Limited, The Wolverine, Abraham Lincoln, National Limited and many more. In keeping with the strategy of its subject, the book blurs the identity tracks combining public appearances (concerts, press conferences, photo session) to the intimacy of the artist (lodges, travel), to appear in the be. These photographs trace the birth of one of the biggest, most influential pop ideas ever: the notion that a pop performer could, on record as well as on stage, reinvent himself creatively by inhabiting various personas.

Most of his early costumes were designed by Freddie Burretti and later Kansai Yamamoto, his inspiration ranged from kabuki theatre, Japanese culture, his mentor Lindsay Lemp, to Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA Enterprise and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. We can see how Bowie created his Ziggy and the Spiders From Mars in their flamboyant costumes and exotic hair and make-up. Oversized purple cloth in illustrated dust jacket, boldly signed by photographer Mick Rock on the front free endpage, NOT signed by Bowie. Featuring more than 600 photographs selected from Mick Rock's vast archive Moonage Daydream takes the reader from the early English concerts where Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars made their name, to Ziggy's final swansong, the flamboyant 1980 Floor Show.

During the entire book one cannot slip the feeling of Bowie being an icon in so many ways, staying humble through his own words, debunking myths (once as "tosh") and glorifying the people who helped him to garb, make-up and generally help him in a variety of ways, not least Mick Ronson and Mick Rock. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data.

It is a new, uncut large format edition, released to coincide with the launch of the documentary movie Moonage Daydream by Brett Morgen and an exhibition of Mick Rock’s photos at Atlas Gallery, London. Legendary rock photographer Mick Rock is often referred to as 'The Man Who Shot the Seventies', for his iconic images of Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Queen, the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Blondie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc. I would also literally draw out on paper with a crayon or felt tip pen the shape of a solo: the one in 'Moonage Daydream', for instance, started as a flat line that became a fat megaphone-type shape and ended as sprays of disassociated and broken lines. First published in 2002 by Bowie and Mick Rock ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies’ as a signed, limited edition, it has since become a much sought-after collector’s item.

Produced from the negative at Rock's preferred photo lab in New York, the colour C-type reproduces a stunning live shot of Bowie onstage at London's Earl's Court, in May 1973, and is suitable for framing (203mm x 254mm / 8" x 10"). Ziggy Stardust blazed briefly but intensely, and I am delighted to see his life and times as a rock'n'roll star immortalised in this beautiful limited edition. Moonage Daydream is an essential collector’s item for any Bowie fans, especially if Ziggy was your favourite character. Original blue quarter morocco-grain roan, lettering in silver and gilt to spine, silver and gilt lightning motifs to pictorial boards, all edges silver, photographic green and orange endpapers. For some reason they thought we were big time dealers rather than 3 stupid 17 year olds up from sticks. I'm a big fan of Bowie and i'm really into Photography so this was a good read, and i really enjoyed all the amazing picture's.

Twenty years later, it remains the closest readers will get to understanding Bowie through his own words. To celebrate this 50th Anniversary the Moonage Daydream book (endorsed by David Bowie and Mick Rocks estate) has been published. The closest this world will ever get to a straight-up Bowie autobiography — but who’d ever want anything straight-up from Bowie?
