It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel - with characters you'll come to know and love - from no. Grace doesn’t like a lot of fuss, so a surprise party to celebrate her reaching ninety is not going to be well received. Grace is approaching ninety and a surprise party is planned for her, organised by her granddaughter, Elin, yet all Grace requires is the rift in her family to be healed.

What Grace really wants is to find her daughter Alys; mother of Elin and absent from the family for thirty years. The plot is mostly set in the present, although there are a few moments where we flash back to different stages in the past 70 years. Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. Noticed another reviewer mentioned she disliked the way RJ often leaves the endings off words, ie, "nothin" instead of "nothing and "somethin", not "something". A story of three generations, misunderstandings, heart break, rescue, love and ultimately coming together.

Ruth Jones is, of course, a great storyteller, and she has pulled it off again with this tale of four generations of Welsh women. Meanwhile Grace's great -grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own.The book starts with Elin, a headteacher, who is organising a surprise 90th birthday party for her grandmother who brought her up when her mother was unable to, despite her grandmother having said that she didn’t want a party. It is such a well written book, with the characters being fully formed and believable, it had me rooting for the best outcome for them all. The ending took me totally by surprise and I had to read the last couple of chapters twice because my eyes leaked (I sobbed) and the print blurred. The depth of emotion between Judy, Chloe and baby Bobo is wonderful to watch, and in Love Untold this intergenerational maternal web is beautifully captured by Ruth Jones.
