Description

The controller’s layout mirrors the software’s GUI, giving you instinctive control of performance features including Hot Cues, Sampler, Slicer, Sound Colour FX, Beat FX, Beat Jump and Pad FX.

Be able to use DVS to control my MP3s on the laptop/screen built into DJ controller (while I slowly build my vinyl records library) But also you can set the unit into Midi mode for use as a “traditional” DJ controller with DJ software that can be mapped such as Traktor or VirtualDJ (great if you want to make the transition to Rekordbox gradually), and – my personal favourite – a highly useful brightness control for the display, so you can set it to be clear and easy to read in broad sunlight, while also so as not to dazzle you in a dark DJ booth. The XDJ-RX is not compatible with Serato DJ at the time of this writing. Can I use serato DVS with this? That would be great if I could – all my music is in mp3 but I plan on starting buying pure analog vinyl records too.Rekordbox DJhas arrived; the new software released by Pioneer DJ is just what Rekordbox users have been waiting for. Rekordbox DJ uses one library so a set can be prepped and played straight from a laptop and used with a controller or export the same library to a USB device ready to use on the industry standard CDJ-2000 Nexus players. The bottom line for me was that my mixes on the Traktor s4 were better, more creative and easier than this more expensive Pioneer unit. When this unit is used in pure standalone mixer mode and the music comes in analog form from the SLs – can one switch off the central screen on this unit? So that a fully analog, immersive experience is created without a 7 inch screen glaring in DJs eyes in a darker bedroom setting? fully analog mixer (in terms of internal architecture and signal processing, not that it is ‘with digital’ in that it has built in sound card) for example Xone:43 Have the ability to learn at home, on this gear the rekordbox system/DJM CDJ club standard way of playing – so that when I go to DJ in a club I will not shit my pants 🙂

The Pioneer DDJ-RX is the finest example of hardware–for-software engineering out there. Pioneer has designed the DDJ-RX controller to visually unite with rekordbox software through colour co-ordination. The colour coding on mac and PC screens immediately match with that of the pads, knobs and buttons of the RX controller, creating intuitive, stress free play. The Pioneer vs Traktor discussion is v interesting. I have used CDJ 2000 nxs a lot and I simply don’t find them as intuitive as the traktor system, both Manually and in SYNC mode.

Features

Now with the XDJ-RX, for the first time it’s possible to see how a beginner DJ could buy this as their first controller, learning how to DJ on it the “Pioneer” way, and so theoretically carry those skills right across into the pro DJ booth when ready with a minimal learning curve to adjust to. Since one of the issues people have with software / controller DJing is “but the club I want to play in has CDJs, and I don’t know how to use them!”, this could turn out to be significant. Let’s look a little more closely at the mixer section. It’s only two channel, and has a library browse knob and buttons in the middle as DJ controllers do, but otherwise as stated above it looks, feels and acts like any pro Pioneer mixer. I already have a very powerful laptop (rMBP 15”) so I am not counting this cost at all – it’s there already I have a thing for Pioneer – no, I am not a snob. I mean I like the way Pioneer is made – I like it visually and quality wise. For example, as good as A&H and Rane’s gear is, I am not that convinced by their gear in that respect. I dunno…those LEDs on VUs are round instead of squred off and it all looks a bit like a toy. Now it is not a deal breaker how it looks or feels but let’s just say that I would prefer to have something made by Pioneer. It will be interesting to see what comes next. I would like to see Pioneer release a controller like this with four channels and a touchscreen priced a bit higher, and another one, again with a touchscreen (leaving that off the XDJ-RX was a mistake), but without all the complicated inputs and outputs of this unit, only controlling two software channels, and so coming in cheaper.

The new Pioneer DDJ-RX is the latest DJ controller to be released by the well known Pioneer DJ brand. The new controller has been exclusively designed to manage the new Pioneer Rekordbox DJ software. It is speedy, dependable and sounds excellent in any given environment. The new RX controller along with the Rekordbox software have been specially created for DJs who use or want to use the performance software on a laptop with a controller. As a result rather than having to take equipment to the venue, the library can easily be exported to a USB, enabling the DJ to use the industry standard equipment that is found in the majority of venues across the globe. In the mixer section we’re in reassuringly familiar Pioneer territory – standard bass / mid / treble kills for each channel plus full kill trim / gain knobs. Each channel has a silver control knob for the built-in hardware colour FX with the FX selector buttons in the middle giving you a choice of the “noise”, “crush”, “pitch” or “filter” FX that features on a lot of Pioneer gear. With the levels for booth output, master level meters and mater level control lined down the middle, everything feels ergonomically laid out with just enough space to get to grip with EQ, filters and so on. In the middle of the channel faders sits the fader for the volume level of the sampler output and buttons to sync and cue the sampler too, more on the sampler in a bit… Does the screen on this XDJ-RX resemble in any way the screen on XDJ-1000/CDJ-2000nxs ? I mean not quality wise but in terms of layout and graphics? I guess my question here is if the screens on these ‘players’ use the same OS. I just would like to know that if I am used to DJ on this and then go to a club where they have CDJ2000nxs (rekordbox compatible) if I feel 100% at home after plugging USB in terms of visual arrangement/system of the screen’s player First Impressions / Setting up Based on the popular DDJ-SX Pioneer DJ’s first controller for the new Rekordbox DJ software has a lot to prove, it certainly looks the part, but can it deliver? First impressions and setting up Rekordbox DJ includes all the accustomed tools including Sampler, Slicer, Hot Cues, Beat FX and Sound Colour FX along with Beat Jump and introducing the new Pad FX so you can create multiple FX chains using all 16 pads.Setting up is a case of plugging in the power and your powered speakers, and adding a music source, typically a library of music prepared in Rekordbox and brought with you on USB. (You can also plug in an iOS or Android device via USB should you have Rekordbox-prepared music on that, or indeed – and a little confusingly if you’re new to all of this and trying to work out the difference between these systems! – a laptop that contains your Rekordbox library.) In other words I need something ultra versatile with the ability to get used to playing on Pioneer’s club standard without actually buying it. Can you comment on sound quality please? Especially in comparison to top of the line and digital mixer from Pioneer i.e. DJM-900nxs(2) and some full analog mixers for example made by A&H (e.g. Xone43)? Is this unit in any way DVS compatible/expandable? I would like the have the option to use timecode vinyl on the SLs to control the software (particularly Serato DJ) and mp3s through this unit.

The hardware felt v impressive. Solid. The platters felt great and the mixer felt high quality. I started mixing and learning my way around the unit. In addition to algorithms lifted from Pioneer’s legendary DJM mixer range the DDJ-RX boasts Pad FX (enabling users to chain FX using all 16 velocity sensitive pads), sound colour FX and the all new sequencer.
