And of course, why not go for the full Belgian experience and drink your beer directly out of the appropriate glass?

Though it's old, by the brewer's standard, still quite good. I'd like to try one fresh for comparison,. All that delicate sweetness perfectly balances with the alcohol and keeps you hungry for more. Overall, the perfect way for the sophisticated beer aficionado to quench their thirst. Give It A Whirl… Kwak’s soft caramel aroma allows for an expansive flavour profile. Meanwhile, a heavy taste of barley malts, wheat and hops run throughout the drink. In common with all Bosteels beers, it is brewed with natural basic ingredients: barley malts, mineral water, wheat, hops and white candy sugar. Everything is perfectly tied together by hopping, ensuring Kwak perfectly positions itself between sweetness and crispness. It manages to avoid the cloying aftertaste that a lot of sweeter beers possess. Impressively it also manages to achieve a nice, full-bodied taste without that nasty viscous, chewy sensation that often accompanies such brews. It’ll take time, but we’ll be putting the spotlight on cask beer throughout 2022 and beyond. It will be at the heart of all we talk about, focussed on engaging, educating and repositioning the category. We want to work with other breweries, industry bodies, publicans, drinkers and commentators to spread the message and TALK about CASK BEER. This story inspired a brewer from nearby Buggenhout and since the 1980s the Pauwel Kwak is brewed by Brouwerij Bosteels, which also produces the popular Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres. Pauwel Kwak has earthy aromas, a malty character with touches of liquorice, a nougat-like robustness and a warm finish not unlike caramelised banana. Yeast and red fruits are the strongest aromas, but you will also find a few herbs.Coinis a false cognate of the English word "coin." The word for "coin" is pièce, which also means "room," as in Lionel's example above. Try not to get them confused! In fact, it has been bookmarked the “quintessential Belgian Beer” by some, while others find it hard not to rave about the intense aromas surrounding this beer. Kwak Belgian Beer Gift Sets Whether you’re looking to try Kwak beer yourself, or think it would be perfect for a friend, we have you covered. While it seems like a quirky and fun name, there is actually a very practical reason behind it. The recipe for Kwak beer was created in the 18th century by Belgian innkeeper and brewer Pauwel Kwak. He was first to come up with the winning formula for the spicy dark beer we are so fond of, and it took its name from him. In the 18th century there was a very well-known brewer in the Dendermonde area; his name was Pauwel Kwak. He brewed his own beer, which was dark and heavy. He also has had a coaching inn on the road between Mechelen and Gent, where the mail coaches used to stop for a break.

Although Pauwel Kwak laid the solid foundation for the beer we know today, the recipe has changed throughout the years. The brewers of this truly exceptional beer (Bosteels, in case you were wondering) haven’t changed or adapted ingredients, leaving a beer that can safely say it has been popular for the ages. Just like the other beers in the Bosteels range, the bottle states a storage life of two years. We strongly recommend that you follow this guideline. The taste of this beer will not improve with longer storage, in fact it could deteriorate. We are proud to support British independent breweries by serving local cask beers in all of our pubs. It’s a unique product that takes real skill to brew and which our landlords take care to serve to customers in the best possible condition. There really is nothing like a fresh pint of cask beer and we are delighted to be serving it once again to customers in our pubs across the UK” Chris Jowsey, Chief Executive Admiral Taverns. In those days, the Napoleonic Code ruled that coach drivers were forbidden to drink beer with their passengers and so they were not allowed to leave the coach to quench their thirst. Pauwel Kwak invented an efficient solution to this problem by offering the famous Kwak beer in a special glass that could be fixed to the carriage, so the drivers could also enjoy one.But most importantly, the right beer glass or goblet can make a world of difference in terms of appearance, aroma, and flavour. Temperature, aeration, carbonation, head creation and retention, the ability to swirl, and protection from bumps in busy beerhalls: there are countless reasons certain craft beer glasses just make sense.
