Step Three- The response the questioning Detective receives will be based on a response chosen by the Chisel. The noir setting really comes through in the dialogue, in the flavor text, in the game components, and even in the really fun glossary of period-appropriate terms that is included with the game. When referring to lettered case cards, use the actual letter as the other Detectives playing may not be aware of what is on the case card.

Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD Homicide detectives that will do whatever it takes to solve the case, but one player will take on the role of The Chisel whose goal is to stall and misdirect the detectives at every turn. Though, no one complained as they were spending time trying to piece together the solution to the crime.

My primary experience of this game is of solving the cases on my own, then acting as the chisel for other players. Detective: City of Angels is an epic narrative-driven board game set in the dark and violent world of 1940's Los Angeles. Players can spend actions on their turn to gain ‘scratch’ or claim a hefty kickback from the mob if they’re at the right location. BE A SLEUTH: Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD homicide detectives, hungry for glory and willing to do whatever it takes to successfully close a case, even if that means intimidating suspects, concealing evidence, and hiring snitches to rat on their fellow detectives.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Favours provide each detective with a unique one-time power to turn the tide on a failing investigation, while Grift cards help the Chisel to foil even the most intrepid flatfoots. Also, be aware that this game is a one time play through as solving the crime means that it cannot be played through again.And even then, if you enjoy playing the Chisel, you can always introduce the game to a new playgroup and run all the cases again!

The Detective will only read what is being shown on the ARC sleeve, and if any new evidence is given the Detective may look at it. The information though given to the Detective may be the "most useful response" or it may be a "lie or misdirection". Detectives can challenge responses that they think are lies but at great risk: If they're wrong, The Chisel will acquire leverage over them, making the case that much harder to solve.
