Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. There is a high degree of quality expected when a cask has been chosen as good enough to be released in this form. Let’s see how it measures up. Starward Single Barrel Australian Whisky – Review Bearface Spirits took home two Golds, including one for its Elementally Aged Triple Oak Whisky, enjoyed for “bread dough, maple syrup, toffee, caramel, honey, vanilla” notes, and another for its Whisky Wilderness Series 02 Mitlenatch Island Release. Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. A solid whisky I would happily drink more of. The pronounced fruit and nut characteristics are perfectly balanced and the Cambeltown-esque saltiness adds an interesting layer of complexity. It turns out that I’m also a fan of rum cask maturation. Score: 5/10 Hot off the press

Nose / Like we took bright flavours of red berries and orchard fruit and coated them in soft oak spice. On the nose: Sweetly fruity scents of strawberry hard candy, with a floral note of roses and a whiff of chestnuts. Some yeasty and malty aromas. There’s a sharp accent of tannic cask wood, as well as juniper berries and five spice. Intriguing. Vitalis: The distillery's most premium limited offering to date, which was released at the tail-end of 2022 (so it missed out on SFWSC) to commemorate the distillery's 15th anniversary. It's a single malt made with whisky aged between 4 and 10 years in red wine, tawny, bourbon, apera (an Australian sherry-like wine) and rum barrels. How do Starward Australian Whisky's Expressions taste? Starward Nova

Conclusions

This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. Taking the top award was Wire Works Whisky Alter Ego from Derbyshire, UK. Chambers particularly enjoyed this: “Golden syrup and malty nose, drying ashy peat smoke on the palate, nice level of sweetness, golden syrup and milk chocolate, with a hint of cocoa and gingerbread.” Interesting to note that Starward leave their barrels wet with wine as they fill them. The resulting whisky is clearly wine-tinged and looks delicious as a result. On the nose: immediately this dram strikes with appealing fruit scents like pineapple and banana, then coconut flakes, strawberry bubble gum and lilac. There are no off notes here though time with the dram doesn’t reveal much else. Eventually reveals dark honey and caramel.

Sure, the nose starts out cheerily enough, with some pleasant fruity flavors imparted by the wine cask. However, malt and wood never find balance in the mouth. At 2 years of age, this is too young to have resolved itself properly, and the mouthfeel underwhelms at the weak 41% strength. Score: 4/10 On the nose: A freshly baked pineapple sponge cake with toasted almonds on top. The almond notes grow in stature and there’s a pronounced wave of marzipan paste. The topical fruit notes become more sugary – like boiled sweets – and fresh pine honey rises from the bottom to the top. Solid stuff.
