About this deal

I have planted up one pot but intend to get some identical plants and 2 planters to try a comparison with 'ordinary' compost. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. Traditionally, here in the Lake District, bracken has been used as an animal winter bedding material, which was then spread on the land in Spring to fertilise the fields. Dalefoot Wool Compost feeds throughout the growing season, is free draining so plants will not become waterlogged and can be used to grow flowers, fruit, vegetables and trees. I am also a reckless gardener and somewhat lazy so I leave my tubers in the ground over winter and just hope they appear again in the spring.

The texture of this compost is also similar to peat, which makes beautifully friable compost but is so much better for the environment. The new Wool Compost for Vegetables and Salads (launched at the 2016 RHS Chelsea Flower Show), is ideal whether you are growing herbs on your windowsill, spuds in a potato sack or beans in your back garden.

In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos.

Social Association approved – the compost is sustainably made from renewable, natural ingredients on Dalefoot Farm in the Lake District and is approved for organic growing by the Soil Association. Go peat-free with this Dalefoot Peat-Free Wool Compost is the compost of all composts made here in Cumbria. It brings a good balance to the bracken, adding diverse microbes that would not be present otherwise and help to replicate the natural ecological biome from where it comes. You may also want to pair this with some extra natural protection such as our Jute Mulch Mats, Felt Shillies or Wool Gardening Felt.
