I think with a nice rechargeable battery and a power supply it would be much better but then you have to deal with a bigger physical unit and more wires. I have played bass for quite some time with my brilliant Fender J, but my housing situation don't allow me to use an amplifier. They aren’t the fake drum sounds you might associate with some old Casio keyboard or something, they have a really nice tone to them, and playing along doesn’t get boring quickly.

cat1rating=”5″ cat2title=”Features” cat2detail=”It’s hard to think of anything else I’d add – maybe a distortion effect? This versatile true bypass pedal can also be used as a boost and a buffer when it's not being used as a headphone amp. The NUX MP-3 Mighty Plug Pro guitar and bass amp modeller allows you play with a range of inspiring sounds without the need to lug a hefty guitar amp around. With the ability to move and play in complete freedom, you’ll never get tangled up or pull off your headphones by stepping on a cable.

Unlike with the Vox where the three channels were very similar, the heavy overdrive is a mile away from the clean classic tone. I do think if you can afford to save up a little more money, the tones from the Vox or Blackstar will leave you more satisfied.

I bet there are loads of people out there using this amp with no idea of the additional settings and options available to them. Lightweight and a cinch to operate, this headphone amp is a great way to enjoy playing funky grooves and wailing scales in private. Voiced and designed by Blackstar in the UK, amPlug2 FLY Bass is battery-powered and has a foldable instrument jack plug for connection to any bass body type. Built in drum patterns are really useful when you need to play with metronome (but no pure metronome mode available, all the 9 types are drum). You connect your headphones (any standard headphones with a small 'phone' jack will do fine) into the Amplug and enjoy practising in private with a deep and rich bass tone. The amPlug is the simplest way to get serious sound; occupying virtually no space, it’s an ideal choice for any guitarist or bassist. Some of these come kitted out with more niche features too, such as gyro sensors which emulate that authentic " amp in a room" experience. Problem is, I don’t know much about the equipment and what is considered “good” for advanced players.

I am still trying to teach my index and middle fingers to pick the strings alternately and to use my unused (not fretting a note) fingers to mute the other strings. With that in mind, there are still plenty of affordable solutions out there that allow you to play your bass while amplified. These amazing little machines, also known as ‘amPlugs’ plug directly into your bass, are powered by batteries, and allow you to hear an amplified bass tone through any pair of regular headphones without the need for a large amp or cables. They are an innovative and compact idea that can prove very useful when you need to sneak in a practice session without disturbing anyone.I certainly use some a lot more than others, and some do sit awaiting a brilliant discovery to be had on them (this is mainly on the sax side with some experiemental stuff I would like to do if I could get this damn work thing out of my way, lol). I didn’t like the effect it had on the sound of my bass, so I left it in the neutral centre position.
