You only need to remove the plaster once it starts to naturally peel away from your skin, or when you notice that the white bubble in the centre has reached the edge of the dressing. This indicates that the blister fluids are filling up the inside of the plaster and it needs to be replaced. If neither of these things happen though, leave your plaster on, as removing it will be painful and will only slow down the healing process! If you find macerated skin when you remove your plaster, use an island dressing instead. Change it frequently so you don't have a soggy dressing on for any length of time. How frequently? It depends, but 2-4 times a day would be a good starting point. Q5: How weepy is too weepy for a hydrocolloid blister plaster? During this healing process, the fluid present in the blister is reabsorbed by the underlying tissue and swelling subsides.

Compeed ® plasters have bevelled edges to maximise adhesion to the skin. They act like a second skin and are designed to remain in place for several days *. I see the latter at the 6-day ultramarathon races I attend. Runners get a deroofed blister and put a hydrocolloid blister plaster on it, thinking that's all they need to do, and keep running. If it was the end of the race, it would be perfectly fine. But the repetitive pounding continues and they've done nothing to reduce friction levels, pressure or the movement of the bones. In these situations, it’s better to use island dressings, changing them frequently (2-4 times per day), until the blister starts to weep less. At this point, you can speed healing up and benefit from the way hydrocolloids work. Q7: Where can I buy BlisterPod Hydrocolloid Blister Plasters? A white gel bubble starts to form within hours which indicates the wound is healing. What Hydrocolloid Healing Looks Like The range of COMPEED ® Blister plasters offer a wide variety of specialist solutions to help prevent blister development or speed up the healing process of a range of sizes and shapes of blisters. They contain an active hydrocolloid gel technology that, in addition to providing cushioning, will give you instant pain relief and create a protective environment for the blister to heal. In clinical studies, COMPEED ® blister plasters have been demonstrated to provide instant pain relief and extra cushioning. They have also been shown to heal 20% faster than regular plasters. As described above, in most cases your blister will heal on its own in a matter of a few days. A new layer of skin will form beneath the blister and the top skin layer (roof) will peel away. You don’t have to pop a blister for it to heal. A blister is the skin’s way to protect itself from pain and infection. Compeed ®’s hydrocolloidal protective layer maintains an optimal moisture level to help the blister heal. If you want to learn more about friction blister treatment, read here.

You do not need to burst the blister to use Compeed ®. If it does open, clean it with mild soapy water, soak it in a saltwater foot bath for 10 minutes and cover with a protective plaster such as COMPEED ®. Are COMPEED ® blister plasters waterproof? Blister Medium(x1,x2,x5,x10) , Blister Underfoot/Sports Underfoot, Blister Extreme/Sports Heel, Blister Small, Blister on Toes, Blister Mix, Blister High Heel – 36 months shelf life after manufacture.

The blister looks infected, it is draining pus, or the area around the blister is red, swollen, warm, or very painful Blisters develop as a result of repeated friction and rubbing, often from tight or ill-fitting shoes. How to treat blisters? Although blisters can be a painful annoyance and make your life miserable, in most cases they won’t lead to medical issues. However, here are reasons why you should seek medical advice: A: Hydrocolloids are used to facilitate healing of mildly weepy wounds. If you’re having to change your hydrocolloid bandage within 24 hours, it’s too weepy to benefit from the healing powers of a hydrocolloid. Use an island dressing instead, until the weeping slows down a bit. Q6: What would cause my blister to be too weepy for a hydrocolloid? I'm going to get straight to the point here. Please, do not use hydrocolloid blister dressings (like Compeed) on blisters with an intact or torn roof! If you do, it may rip the skin of the blister roof off upon removal. As a result, you'll have made your blister worse, instead of better. Hydrocolloid dressings should only be used on deroofed blisters, like the ones pictured below. A deroofed blisters is one where the roof has been completely removed, leaving a red raw sore.Blisters are fluid filled lesions that develop in response to repeated friction on the skin. Open blisters can be very painful and take several days to heal. What causes blisters? The plaster contains hydrocolloid particles. These hydrocolloid particles are distributed throughout the plaster and absorb fluid from the wound (exudate). They help maintain an optimal moisture level to facilitate healing. During treatment, the hydrocolloid particles swell which creates a cushioning effect, redistributing pressure and providing instant pain relief. After 24 hours, new skin layers under the surface are in a steady formation process. After 2 days, a new layer of skin is already visible, and after 5 days, a new upper layer of skin is clearly seen.
