About this deal

I don’t want a monolith as they are huge, very heavy and being ported, perhaps not most suited to what I want. I also don’t really want to consider anything other than BK because: now I'm actually waiting on the LS50s still and am using some Q150s as a stop gap for now but I think in terms of bass response there isn't going to be a massive difference. Its not like I'm switching to some floor standers later. I had alway figured I'd add a sub later in any case... I have a denon receiver and with mine after using the audyssey it sets my standmount speakers as large, my center as small and my rear speakers as small which there are. Enjoying the workout that Tropic Thunder delivers to both subwoofer and our stomach muscles, explosions have the necessary thud and it's only a little extra definition that seems to be missing.

I have my M20’s mounted in the corners of the shorter wall in my home office (office dimensions: 2.7m x 2.8m) and so I need to use the foam plugs supplied with the M20’s to maintain the sound fidelity. I know this isn’t an ideal set up for the speakers but I have a standing desk with an ultra wide monitor and another portrait Monitor to the side which means I can’t have the speakers on the desk. So they need to be mounted on the wall behind my desk and I’d really like to add a subwoofer to increase the depth of sound. Certainly though the current Double Gems have all the grunt I need as attested by the fact I run at well less than half volume. I've read that the T5V are not a whole lot worse than the T7V, and that adding a sub to the T5V would yield better results than buying the T7V. I'm not in a position to buy a sub at the moment, but I would probably be willing to take the smaller set for a while and do that, if the gain would be noticeably better. If the T7V are going to be able to do everything for me though(enough bass, fill the room etc.), then obviously that would be preferable, as I can get them for around 60 euro more than the T5V. Never seen it mentioned anywhere, I don't think the Gemini II has that built-in. As for how to get it anyway, you could build something that turned power on/off, you'd plug your device into the wall and the sub into this device. You'll find a downward-firing 10in driver inside the box, complete with a polypropylene cone, and a sealed cabinet. Also bought a Double Gem when I moved to my present house in 2018 - to go behind the TV. That also worked well (now with MiniDSP correction) until it developed an intermittent hum. I bought a new plate amp from BK and it is now working well again.

Ultimately, in the long run I plan to upgrade the speakers to something like Tannoy Precision 6.2 LE (the UK made higher grade version), SF Sonnetto III or Fynne Audio F501SP (UK made version) so I would want the BKs to fit well at that level. am i able to add bit of bass or is sub going to be banging my floor and walls even on a low setting? Are there any recommended subs that would pair well with the M20’s and also look aesthetically similar (or at least not look out of place)? For similar money to REL, the SVS SB1000 or it's new counterpart would be a great option, more headroom, longer warranty and a brand that's built its reputation from the ground up surviving the challenging world of enthusiast forums the world over. It is the safe option. Remember that most Dali speakers shouldn`t be toed in as in angled toward listener! Spread them apart (equilateral triangle if possible) and put them shooting straight not towards you!

The company has previously been involved in disco amplifiers and cinema systems, so it knows a thing or two about filling a room. A good subwoofer will allow you to hear and feel things a cheap subwoofer or most speakers just cannot. Very useful information thank you. My twin ported Tannoy sub is huge (95 litre cabinet) and it does add plenty of weight to the overall sound. The room is 3.5m x 6.5m x 2.4m with the HiFi at one end. The only way I got the Tannoy to work properly was to position it at approx 1/3rd down a long wall. I actually bought a Tzero very recently for use in the videoconferencing/ av system in the same office. So far I’m pretty happy with it and it’s just being used with some MS Alumni speakers for now. Q Acoustics 3010s on the way). Was quite surprised at how well it charged the room. I had assumed though it wouldn’t be enough to go with the HiFi system. Perhaps I should swap it over and see how it sounds. I do listen to quite a lot of EDM type music when working though so it might not be the best choice. In terms of how it compared to the MK, it's remarkably favourable. Using 10" drivers instead of 8's plays well in the favour of physics. The drivers and amplifier in the MK are better, and it did the subtle bass and integration better. In my room at the levels I listen to, the MK sounded great for such a small subwoofer producing nice accurate and pretty deep sounding bass, but was limited to around 30Hz. The BK digs a little deeper and goes every bit as loud as the MK did (which is more a testament to the MK given it only uses 8" drivers), but doesn't really shake the sofa anymore (the X8 didn't really do that either), but there is an obvious sense you're getting deeper bass from it. With that deeper bass though is that slightly reduced control. Given the difference in price points though the delivery from the Double Gem is remarkable, and while it may not quite pull of the detail and integration capability to the same standard X8 did, it still sounds really very clean (a common trait of well design dual-driver sealed subwoofers) and gives an excellent account of itself while giving a bit more depth on top. I think the BK would lose composure more than the X8 when pushed hard, but I don't listen at those kinds of levels making a bit of a moot point in my particular case. If your amplifier/receiver has a trigger output, you could make a very simple circuit to drive a relay that would turn the sub on/off along with the amp (I don't know the specification of this output, but you might not even need a separate power source for this). If not, making a circuit to detect when the amplifier is outputting a signal shouldn't be too hard either, but will require more electronics know-how, you'd connect it to the amplifier's subwoofer output with a Y adapter and it could turn a relay on/off to control power to the sub (depending what you build, you could have configurable time periods to turn it off, configurable threshold levels to turn it on, etc.). This would also require a separate power supply, obviously or you'd have to open up the sub to mount it inside and power it. I wouldn't do that. I then go into the menu and set the crossover to 80hz for all the speakers and change my front speakers to small as my amp tends to set them to large after calibration. I'm sure your onkyo has audyssey calibration to. Listening position would be mostly sofa, but could be anywhere in the room really. I know this setup isn't ideal to project into the room, but there is nowhere else I can really put them for now. x XXLS 200s - the cheapest and most compact option - no bigger than the Gemini II that I am using now but I assume better?

My sub has given up the ghost, but it is over 15 years old and probably not well suited to the job in hand - my living room is 5.25m x 5.25m with a high ceiling topped with a large lantern (don't talk to me about light pollution!) and it is also open to the kitchen/breakfast room. The floors are wood with a central rug and any sub needs to be at the front of the viewing space, within a metre of the corner. I have a Marantz SR6013 powering the 7.1 set-up, using KEF eggs, 2 front height, 4 rear/surround, and single centre. TV is 55" Panasonic and there is a 10ft drop down screen, JVC projector. My Tannoys on their own produce audible output from 25hz - yes that surprised me too and they got louder then trailed off a bit from 50 - 70 hz then got louder again. Out of interest I ran a few REW frequency sweeps this afternoon. Please bear in mind that I don’t have a microphone - I used my ears while sat in my listening position. The output on the laptop was set to high and volume on my amp at 40. I tend to listen between 35 - 45 depending upon source volume/my mood etc.If I didn’t already have a ‘spare‘ Gem II that I could partner, and were the optimum location not quite so dominating, I probably would go for two DGs. However, without hearing the dual Gem IIs in action I would probably have taken advice and gone for XLS200 or XLS400 as the more musical option so in that respect, I may have overlooked the DG anyway. I know what you mean. A double gem cabinet with the peerless drivers and XLS amp would be very interesting. Someone on the forum suggested that BK could potentially build such a thing on request but I have no idea if that is true or what it would cost. At risk of creating a Frankenstein‘s Monster that is difficult to sell on if it doesn’t work, not requesting a combinations of parts from different models is probably best.
