Description

The tone is light without falling into farce, and there are nods to fantasy cliches scattered throughout. The story is long which I like as it allowed the story to be explored fully in a single story not divided into a trilogy which makes a nice change. This is an epic action-fantasy full of adventure, excitement, and drama - and all from the bad guys' points of view! It’s a long-standing tradition in the genre, pre-dating even Tolkien and Lewis, hailing back to epic tales of Beowulf and the tales of the Greek heroes: the forces of good fight to defeat the forces of evil.

Plot-wise, The Goblin Corps revolves around a new Demon Squad assembled to serve King Morthûl in preparation for the upcoming war against the Allied Kingdoms. His work includes novels, short stories, role-playing games, and video games, all of which he enjoyed in lieu of school work when growing up.

Squinting red eyes, a sign of almost feminine beauty, peered from folds of swampy-green skin, and his shock-white hair was matted into three large tails by the careful application of mud and the blood of his enemies. Engaging characters, well-done action scenes, character development and world building both deeper than they may at first appear, and solid plotting that was gearing up towards several interesting and exciting resolutions. There was an actual finale and it was epic and grand and I'm just going to ignore the actual conclusion. Now, as winter solidifies its icy grip on the passes of the Brimstone Mountains, disturbing news has reached the court of Morthûl. Jetzt versammeln sie ihre Kräfte hinter dieser spitzohrigen Plage von einem Erzfeind, dem Elfenmagier Ananias duMark, um einen endgültigen Vernichtungsschlag zu führen. This is a book that took me by surprise - I simply wasn't expecting to be taken in this type of story and at first glance utterly unlikeable characters.Smooth read with a plot that allowed you to lose yourself in the interactions of folks from the "dark side". Gremlins and ogres, trolls and kobolds all made their homes here, in this last refuge from the sprawling mass of "civilization. When the squad gets into fights, the text really shines as we get to see what tactics and strategy (or lack thereof) a squad of evil humanoids with little in common with each other would actually use. Marmell takes the most blatant fantasy tropes, the stuff any fan dreads will be used as proof of how `lame' or `childish' fantasy is - you know the type: orcs, goblins, trolls, wizards and haughty Dark Lords - and reminds us how fun they can be.
