Description

It seems to have pretty much the same stiffness and range of movement as the original bobbin when pushing and pulling the system around. A belted hanger for a Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck was cut to length and used at the front of the rear subframe. Also, having the header or downpipe secured to the differential; having the subframe remounted with solid items on anything newer than MK III cars, and having the engine securely mounted are crucial to mini exhaust longevity. Now not all exhaust have the same mountings and hangers but this will give you an idea of what a good setup should look like! WAY more expensive than the correct ones, but might be a bit more available stateside if you just can't wait.

I know I could get a bracket welded to the silencer extending forward but I think it would look mess and I prefer the clean lines of the system as it is. It's only supported by one mount at the tailpipe end and by the downpipe at the engine end, and it's very close to the ground (scrapes even when I take the tightest possible angle into the drive). Assuming it's an RC40 (I wouldn't know, it looks like it could be though) would this kit contain all the bits I'd need?Arrived in Eureka, MT with exhaust out of the Mini's sun roof and sounding like a biker gang on the prowl. I'm not sure what would have happened if it weren't a bobbin, maybe torn the whole thing out the body?

I'd worry that polyurethane wouldn't have enough 'give' in it and would strain the exhaust but the machine mount links look good. PS: I was told off at my initial inspection because the steering rack bolts were upside down and failed dangerous. If I can, I'd like to source the parts myself, then take it to a specialist and get it fitted, but to do that I need to know exactly how it needs sorted and what bits to get.The only concern I have is the possibility of the nyloc nut walking off as you can't clamp it down hard, but think this is extremely unlikely. I must admit I don't see the advantage of a poly bush isolator for something like an exhaust, though. Also if anyone knows the part number and a good supplier in the UK or Europe it would be very much appreciated. So far I'm quite happy with the way this has worked out and a lot less worried than I was about using a single mounting point for the silencer. whilst a neat execution, the question in my mind is why are the majority of car exhausts suspended on rubber rather than having through bolts?

Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 13:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). The key to getting a reasonable life out of them was to set them up so that there is minimal strain on the bobbin. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases.

The very rear bobbin type mounting rubber on every Mini made until the introduction of a rubber hanger strap in 1992. You can actually tune the stiffness of it all my tightening the nyloc nut to adjust the compression of the bushes. Yep as every body has said the very rear should have 2 of those rubber bobbins at the rear with preferably a metal bar bewteen the two that they hang from this metal bar then just screws directly to the subframe! Think I've replaced one in 15yrs since build - lots of use in all weather, and lives outside most of the time. So on my sample of two - make sure you're not putting the bobbins under unnecessary loading for a good service life.
