Description

The Kestrel 3500NV portable weather station with Altitude and Barometric Pressure combines a full color display with the power of a complete weather lab in a single instrument. This portable weather meter offers a very bright display for easy viewing, is compatible with Kestrel's optional weather sensor kits, and includes alkaline batteries. The type of anemometer you choose will depend on your needs. If you need a portable device, then a sonic or vane anemometer is the best choice. If you need a device that can measure high winds, then a hot-wire anemometer is the best option. Cup anemometers are not as accurate as of the other types of anemometers, but they are less expensive and more durable.

max/min memory for recording maximum and minimum readings throughout a day or over a series of days. Hermetically sealed, precision thermistor mounted externally and thermally isolated (US Patent 5,939,645) for rapid response. Airflow of 2.2 mph|1 m/s or greater provides fastest response and reduction of insolation effect. Calibration drift negligible. Thermistor may also be used to measure temperature of water or snow by submerging thermistor portion into material -- remove impeller prior to taking submerged measurements and ensure humidity sensor membrane is free of liquid water prior to taking humidity-based measurements after submersion.Operational humidity range is 10% to 95%, operational temperature range 35°F to 110°F (-1°C to +43°C), accuracy +/-3%. Ease of Use: Most handheld anemometers are very easy to use, with few buttons and a clear display. This makes them ideal for those who are new to using a speed measuring device. The casing can also be a factor in water and dust protection. If you’re often outdoors or near water, you’ll want to find an anemometer that is waterproof and can withstand splashes. Dust can also damage your anemometer over time, so look for one with good dust protection as well. The casing should also be strong enough to withstand accidental drops and bumps. No one wants a broken anemometer, so be sure to choose one that is durable. Additionally, it is important that the handheld anemometer is of a comfortable size so you can hold it easily in your hand. Mast Ram (What does it do?)- To refer to main sail depth, the mast ram as a direct effect on mast bend which affects the main sail depth. If you need more depth and power in the main use the mast ram to make the mast straighter. If the main sail is inverting, that means the mast is over bent, apply mast ram to get the mast straighter. The mast ram is a tool used to make the mast straighter to make the main sail deeper, create more headstay tension, and to make the rig more stable (less bounce, keeping the energy for propulsion rather than exhausting the power through rig flexing of the mast, shrouds and headstay). As the spinnaker trimmer, you must be aggressive with body weight placement in the boat. As the boat wants to plane, move aft to get the bow to pop out, then move forward again to keep the transom out of the water and keep the boat on the plane longer. In lighter conditions be aggressive with side to side movements, keeping the boat flat. The Beaufort scale is a historical measure of wind speed, which was devised by Irish-born Francis Beaufort, an officer in the British Royal Navy. The scale is still used today for wind speed measurements in maritime and aviation activities, and for weather forecasting by the National Weather Service and its partners. Perceived temperature resulting from combined effect of wind speed and temperature. Calculated based on the NWS Wind Chill Temperature (WCT) Index, revised 2001, with wind speed adjusted by a factor of 1.5 to yield equivalent results to wind speed measured at 10m above ground. Measurement range limited by extent of published tables. Sonic – Sonic anemometers measure airflow using sound waves—the same way that sonar works to detect objects underwater. Like hot-wire anemometers, sonic devices can be affected by temperature. However, they tend to be more expensive than other types of handheld weather stations. In addition, wind speed readings can vary based on the orientation of the device.Handheld anemometers are handy tools that can be used to measure wind speed. These devices are lightweight, easy to use, affordable, and come in many different styles. When choosing the best handheld anemometer, there are several factors that you must consider to ensure it is compatible with your needs and preferences. Accuracy The Kestrel 2000 monitors current, maximum & average wind speed as well as temperature and wind chill via a high precision Zytelmounted impeller & a fast response temperature sensor. Temperature indicated by a sling psychrometer. Due to nature of the psychrometric ratio for a water-air system, this approximates the thermodynamic wet-bulb temperature. The thermodynamic wet-bulb temperature is the temperature a parcel of air would have if cooled adiabatically to saturation temperature via water evaporating into it. The most accurate type of anemometer is a hot-wire anemometer. What is the vane anemometer popularly known as? While sailing upwind there are certain things you need to pay attention to. These items will help you balance the boat while sailing with as much speed as possible. If one of these items is incorrect the boat will be either out of balance, sailing low (not pointing), sailing slow (no boat speed), or a combination there of.

No matter which type of anemometer you choose, make sure to calibrate it before use. This ensures that the readings are accurate and consistent. How to Choose the Best Handheld Anemometer An anemometer is a device that measures wind speed. An anemometer is usually a small, handheld device with a spinning wheel or cups. The faster the wheel or cups spin, the higher the wind speed. Some anemometers also have cups that face sideways. The faster the wind blows, the more sideways force it puts on the anemometer’s cups or wheel. For nearly 20 years on the portable weather meter market, the Kestrel 1000 is still one of the most reliable handheld weather meters. The Kestrel Meter 1000 features Pay attention to the top batten position. If the sail is too open (twisted) pull vang on to get the top batten 90 degrees to the wind direction. The Kestrel 3500NV allows you to view the current indoor and outdoor temperature, barometric pressure, altitude above sea level, humidity, wind speed and direction, dew point measurement from the current temperature and humidity -- all from one compact unit. F to 131° F | -10 °C to 55 °C Measurements may be taken beyond the limits of the operational temperature range of the display and batteries by maintaining the unit within the operational range and exposing it to the more extreme environment for the minimum time necessary to take reading. Portability: Handheld anemometers are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry around. This makes them perfect for use in fieldwork or other on-the-go applications. Convenient and reliable, the Kestrel 2000 is the perfect tool for kite surfers, sailors
