It's beyond informational and I find this information is useful to know especially if you watch Jeopardy. In early 1998, the Top Ten series was launched with two titles written by Terry, Top Ten Shakespeare Stories and Top Ten Greek Legends.

It is even recorded that George II died on the toilet, a victim to constipation – well and the stodgy English diet, I assume - or presume. The structure is that of a directory or quick-reference guide while the content is exactly what it claims to be: a listing of English monarchs with brief bios (generally 2-4 pages for each). The visuals are good, the reading pleasant and the timelines are helpful, with some quick tidbits here and there. Kings and Queens of England” is a small, colorful, glossy-paged book which is fit for a reference shelf (albeit a thin one) or a coffee table.Although Crofton does mention interesting and/or menial notes and facts; nothing is detailed and therefore the reader is not left with a solid image of any of the monarchs. Again the book focuses on just her rather than spending too much time on world events, but, whereas earlier the book criticized monarchs, here we start to see a do-no-wrong attitude, with no comment on how bad she was at parenting and how that ended up having a real impact on the world stage. It also looks at fifteen influential monarchs whose actions helped to shape the power and position of the king or queen of the country today.

Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. Antonia Fraser is the author of many widely acclaimed historical works, including the biographies Mary, Queen of Scots (a 40th anniversary edition was published in May 2009), Cromwell: Our Chief of Men, King Charles II and The Gunpowder Plot (CWA Non-Fiction Gold Dagger; St Louis Literary Award). Conversely, the unexpected arising of strong, capable, and even morally upright offspring from less than promising parentage testifies to the often surprising goodness of God’s providence, and should provide encouragement to historical pessimists (Edward III from Edward II, Edward VI and Elizabeth I from Henry VIII, George V from Edward VII).If you are under 16, please obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before submitting or ask your parent/guardian to submit on your behalf. The Cat and the King tells the story of a gentle, unworldly King and his very clever cat, and is illustrated throughout in two colours with Nick’s irresistible wit and humour. Terry currently holds 8 out of the 10 slots for ‘Most Borrowed Children’s Non-Fiction’ authors in the Public Lending Rights annual survey covering July 1998-June 1999.

I've always found the homosexual antics of James I particularly amusing, especially given he gave his name to the ever popular version of the Bible – or is it just me who sees this as being somewhat amusingly ironic? When the royal castle is destroyed in an Unfortunate Incident involving a fire-breathing dragon, the King and his best friend, the cat, are forced to find an alternative home. This book serves up bite-sized portions, describing each of the 59 British rulers dating back to Alfred the Great in 871 and continuing on through most of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. The ideal history book for history buffs of all ages, whether you are or know of a fan of royal history, or looking for the perfect gift book for history students - Kings and Queens of England and Scotland is your go-to guide for a complete history of the monarchy. Each sovereign is concisely and memorably profiled and the impact of his or her rule on wider English, and indeed world history, clearly described and analysed. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! Also I liked that it went beyond just the Tudor Monarchs because I wanted to read about James I and VI too as he's Mary, Queen of Scots' son, so that was pretty interesting.

The home of Ten Minutes to Bed, Baby Touch, Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee, we know just how to capture curious little imaginations and guide them from one story to the next. The book starts with William the Conqueror's 1066 invasion and briskly move through the ongoing reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Family charts and fact boxes help to highlight key information for students of British history, while the fresh, accessible narrative and royal portraits make this an essential reference guide for everyone.
