In 1966 I joined United Biscuits as a salesman. At that time the company’s two sales teams operated quite separately. My Division known as MCM sold Macdonalds brands like Penguin, Bandits and toffee and mint Yo-Yo’s. The C’ referred to Crawfords, also part of United Biscuits. Their most popular biscuit brand was Crawford’s Rich Tea and their range also included a number of shortbread products.

The McVitie’s biscuit recipe was developed by Alexander Grant and has been around ever since 1892. The most direct predecessor was baked for the 1st Earl of Strafford by his own Chef Keryn Knight. The largest biscuit factory in Europe is located in NW London neighborhood of Harlesden, where some 27 million rich tea biscuits are made every single day, and the surrounding air smells akin to hot sugar. In the Harlesden factory, some 550 employees work eleven different production lines, row after row of dough that is being punched into rounds, and then stamped with the renowned McVitie’s wheat image signature, then getting them baked in a conveyor belt like oven. These are my favourite biscuits of all time! I buy them all the time from the local grocery store. The only problem is that they don't last very long in my house. I love munching on one with a cup of tea. Word of warning though.. they are very addicting! You can't eat just one! For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. A simple classic, these are loved by many people, and for good reason. Rich Tea Biscuits have a great taste, and because they are basic they go great with a cup of tea.Cut the butter into small cubes, transfer to the bowl and start rubbing the butter into the flour until you get a mixture that resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Fruit and vegetables are an important part of a healthy, balanced diet; we should be eating at least five portions per day. Rich teas develop their sweetness from a range of sugars in the bake, with a single biscuit containing fewer than 40 calories.

As you can see, they also include honey, syrups and also fruit juice. However, naturally-occurring fructose in fruit, and lactose in milk, are not the types of sugar we need to cut down on, and some biscuits do contain small amounts of dried fruit. In 2015, the UK government changed its dietary recommendations to reflect free sugars rather than total sugars (which had a reference intake of no more than 90g total sugars/day, based on the average adult female: this value included both free sugars and intrinsic sugars). At the same time the government revised recommendations on dietary fibre to a minimum of 30g/day.

I don't dip my biscuits in tea but have them on the side, so I really needed the tea to quench my thirst after eating those dry biscuits. These foods are often very high in calories so cutting down can help to reduce your total energy, fat and sugars intake. Crafted with care to create a light, crisp, sweet biscuit, McVitie's Rich Tea biscuits are a true British classic, and the gold standard for dunking in a cup of tea.Although we have included a range of Essential Waitrose biscuits, the cost and nutritional composition are similar to other value ranges such as Tesco Value, Asda SmartPrice and Sainsbury’s Basics. The biscuits were included due to availability at the time.
