Solid arms Go for a chair with solid arms if you struggle getting up and down. They'll give you a sturdy surface that you can push off from to get out of your seat, and to steady yourself when sitting. While none of the chairs had major issues, the best emerged without a scratch, while the worst had scuffs and scrapes on their frames. Portability Padded chairs These can take longer to dry. While they can be more comfortable, the padding acts a bit like a sponge and could stay wet for several hours. Make sure they can go under some cover in a heavy downpour. Lightweight camping chairs, with roomy bags and a small footprint were the best. The worst were heavy, large and protruding bits of the frame hit our legs when being carried. Comfort While it's somewhat personal, our 35 testers (of different ages and ability) generally agreed on the best camping chairs for comfort and for tall or short people, as well as the worst. We also dropped each chair when folded and unfolded to see if they could survive a few bumps and scrapes over their lifetime. A small army of testers each tried every single camping chair, rating them for how comfortable they were to sit in, how stable they felt, and how easy they were to get in and out of. We also tried fitting them in the boot of a 2019 Hyundai i10 (252 litre boot) to see how easy each chair could be transported in a small car.
