I think this is a message movie saying something quite profound about friendship, history, family and the Irish diaspora. In between a handful of dramatic and stomach-churning jolts (McDonagh seems to relish the shock factor in his movies), there's not a lot of plot, and after a while, Pádraic's constant entreaties of reconciliation become as tiresome to us as they do to Colm. He’s an innocently minded soul who finds a darker shadow seeping into his soul as his lack of understanding stews to anger and resentment. High level detail is readily apparent as subtle sound effects, music and voices are rendered with superior clarity and depth.

A civil war raged in Ireland in 1923, but in The Banshees of Inisherin, that conflict pales in comparison to the not-so-civil battle between two stubborn men who live on a desolate island a few miles off the coast. My audio/video ratings are based upon a comparative made against other high definition media/blu-ray disc. Most of the elements connected to Pádraic’s sister Siobhán (Kerry Donlan) feel gratuitous, and her ultimate path doesn’t feel terribly logical in the greater scheme of things. As I love both these films (and Three Billboards) I guess I have no choice but to procure a copy of Seven Psychopaths sometime? But what if the bigger question is, “Have I understood who I really am as a human, do I know who I really am in this world, and does the world really know me. Without spoiling it for the 27 people who have not seen the film it's set in an island just of the coast of southern Ireland during or just after independence. Here, he examines the paths of two men on a small, predictable island where your personal business is everyone else’s, and how they careen into a state of unpredictability following a point of apparently inexplicable fracture in their once predictable friendship. I immediately spun up my new 4k disc of In Bruges (one of those upgrades from Blu I swore I wouldn't do). Though the trio's latest effort isn't nearly as entertaining and certainly won't appeal to as wide an audience, it's a well-made, well-acted, and thoughtful film that merits attention. Farrell, Gleeson, and several other actors praise McDonagh's writing and their fellow castmates and brief segments on the dream-like location, costumes, cinematography, and production design are included as well. The Banshees of Inisherin isn't exactly the antithesis of McDonagh's 2008 breakout film, but it's darn close. Not that either has to ring true – people ghost each other for far less all the time and often never explain – it’s just that I felt a credibility gap in the story that wasn’t fully filled in, and it distracted me. to finish, with only some minimal quibbles some may have with regard to shadow detail and passing crush in a couple of very dark nighttime scenes. No waiver of any of the provisions of this or any Agreement shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be such and signed by both Parties. Suddenly, McDonagh was exposed to the bright industry light and all the temptations that come with it.
