Description

The Core i9 brand was expanded to incorporate mainstream processors in October 2018, following the release of the Core i9-9900K processor, which uses Intel's mainstream consumer platform. [5] Desktop processors [ edit ] Skylake-X (14 nm, 7th generation) [ edit ] In more lightly threaded workloads, the 10850K actually seems to use less power, which might indicate that this could be a current density issue being the prime factor in binning. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 iGPUis supposed to offer a similar performance as the UHD630 in the Core i7-9900K. As a low-end solution it will only run current games smoothly at reduced details - if at all.

However, that won’t stop us trying to squeeze out more performance. There are two things we can still tune. This article evaluates Intel's Core i9-10850K desktop CPU. We evaluated Intel's Core i9-10850K and compared it to others to determine which provides the best value as a gaming CPU. We shaped our testing methodology to focus on each CPU's attributes rather than solely on benchmarks. All models support up to DDR5-5600 or DDR4-3200 memory, and 16 lanes of PCI Express 5.0 + 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0. Thanks to the high Turbo Boost, the CPU is a very fast gaming CPU available at the time of announcement. Using all cores, the i9 however is slower than the top Ryzen CPUs (like the Ryzen 9 3950X) which offer more cores. We see more pronounced differences in our spate of threaded application workloads, but as you'll see in the overall measurements at the end of the article, the trends are largely the same as we observed in gaming. If you're after better power efficiency, and thus a cooler and quieter machine that still has plenty of performance, turn to AMD's Ryzen line of chips. As you can see in our final two scatter charts, which measure the cumulativeamount of energy required to perform an x264 and x265 HandBrake workload, respectively, AMD still holds the unequivocal lead. Core i9-10850K Conclusion

Just like the Core i9-10900K, the Core i9-10850K will run right at the limit of your cooling solution if it doesn't have enough available thermal headroom. We used the 280mm Corsair H115i water cooler with the fans cranked to full blast for testing, and just like with the 10900K, the 10850K pushed up to 100C during any type of AVX stress test. That results in thermal throttling that reduces performance over long-run benchmarks. As such, more capable coolers, like 360mm AIOs and custom loops, could expose yet more performance - and power consumption.Max Turbo Frequency refers to the maximum single-core processor frequency that can be achieved with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. See www.intel.com/technology/turboboost/ for more information and applicability of this technology. We've experienced that single-core performance is essential for some games, as many don't take full advantage of multiple cores. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/hyper-threading/hyper-threading-technology.html?wapkw=hyper+threading for more information including details on which processors support Intel® HT Technology. The performance uplift is most notable in multi-threaded benchmark applications which would typically be heavily constraint by the default power limits.

First, setting the turbo ratio offset uses the default method of applying turbo ratios, meaning the frequency is determined by how many cores are active. I’m here plotting the 10900K against the 10850K as we load the threads with AIDA’s stress test. Peak values are being reported.
