Description

Primrose. Ten parts of white, three parts of green and four parts of yellow will give this light greenish yellow. Another shade is got by mixing one part of orange, two parts of green and five parts of yellow. Scott-Shaw, C.R. "Rare and threatened plants of KwaZulu-Natal and neighbouring regions." KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Service, Pietermaritzburg. 1999 French Green. This is a bright yellowish green, which may be obtained by adding to emerald or deep chrome green about one-tenth part chrome yellow. Yellow ochre is sometimes used instead.

Cambridge Red. Vermilion, to which is added about one twentieth part of Prussian blue, gives a color called Cambridge red. Eggli, Urs “Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants, Crassulaceae Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants.” Springer, Berlin 2002 Fruits (capsules): 3-locular, ellipsoid, apex pointed, 8-25(-30) mm long with accuminate valves, dehishing longitudinally.Light Blue. This is simply an ultramarine blue tint produced by the addition of zinc white, or the color may be obtained by tinting white lead with Prussian blue. Pots: It needs a relatively shallow pot to accommodate its fibrous roots and provide a very good drainage. It may stay in the same pot for many years. Chrome Green. This color can be bought ready made. To produce it by admixture, add Prussian blue to lemon chrome yellow in the proportion of about one part of blue to eight parts of yellow. Watering: It needs moderate water – not too wet nor too dry from autumn to spring with regular water in summer (careful watering required in winter), fairly drought tolerant elsewhere.

Orange ochre is a bright yellow ochre burnt to give it warmth of tint; it dries and works well in water or oil, and is very durable. It is known also as Spanish ochre. Orange red is produced by a further oxidation than is required for red lead. It is a brighter and better color. Habit: Plectranthus forsteriSN|29700]]SN|29700]] is a spreading or trailing perennial sub-shrub over a metre wide. lant actually grows taller than 30 cm but branches droop due to weight of leaves. The purity of white lead is ascertained by dissolving a sample of it in pure dilute nitric acid, 1 part of acid to two parts of water. On adding dilute sulphuric acid to the solution, after diluting it with water and filtering off the precipitate of lead sulphate thus obtained, no further precipitate should be formed on successively adding ammonia, ammonium sulphide and ammonium oxalate to the filtrate. Hardiness: It requires low temperature for flower formation and it will not flower unless it is overwintered for at least a month at 15° C or less. It is usually recommended to avoid freezing temperatures, but it can withstand temperatures down to below -5° C (or less) for short period if dry.Cocoanut Brown. This shade may be obtained by mixing one part of white lead with double the quantity of burnt umber. Quaker Drab. This greenish gray shade is produced by mixing two parts each of yellow and green and five parts of white. Red Terra Cotta. Use equal proportions of burnt sienna and white lead. The tone may be varied by the addition of either of the umbers and the chromes. A good bright terra cotta is also made by using Venetian red as a base and coloring up with ochre and a touch of lake. Fertilization: Fertilizer should be applied only once during the growing season, diluted to ¼ the recommended rate on the label. During October to March, water very sparingly, using only enough water to keep the foliage from shrivelling.
