About this deal

Not every year is declared a vintage in the Douro, only those when conditions are favourable to particularly flavourful crops of grapes.

Thus each genuine port style has a corresponding, often very different, style that can be found in wines made outside Portugal.Social media links are included in our pages to provide links to social media tools like Twitter and Facebook, and enable you to bookmark or recommend our pages.

Light, orange-tinted amber colour, magnificent perfumed nose with great class showing an array of dried fruits. Deliveries to Jersey, Channel Islands, The Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, The Scilly Isles and some areas of Scotland may take longer and are subject to a surcharge. About: Grahams is one of the last Port companies with its own cooperage team who tend to each cask individually. To age and blend old wines like these is an extremely challenging exercise requiring great skill and years of experience. While Porto produced in Portugal is strictly regulated by the Instituto do Vinho do Porto, many wines in the U. Unfiltered or ""Traditional"" LBV ports require decanting like vintage ports do, and may improve in the bottle. Developing skills, craftsmanship and dedication from generation to generation in the form of three unique arts. In 1890 GrahamÂ's became one of the first Port companies to invest in Upper Douro vineyards with the acquisition of the famous property; Quinta dos Malvedos. Currently, Graham’s is the only British Port company that is run independently under one family's control.

This, combined with the skill of the Master Blender, has resulted in Graham's mastering the art of making an outstanding 30 year old tawny port. The Symington Family azquired the company in 1970, so today Graham's remain a wholly owned family firm. Crusted port is a blend of port wine from several years, but retains the crust otherwise restricted to vintage ports. Using the extensive knowledge of the Douro Valley gained over the previous seventy years, the Grahams chose an ideal place to plant a vineyard; an excellent south-facing aspect, fine soil composition, good gradients that facilitate drainage and a perfectly sited ridge on which they built one of the finest of all the DouroÂ's great estate houses. The Graham’s Port winery is one of the few in Porto to have its own cooperage team that is in charge of looking after each of the barrels, turning the understanding of wine and wood into an art form. With a light, orange-tinted amber colour, the nose shows an array of dried fruits aromas while the palate displays mature and concentrated honeyed fruit. It is your responsibility to keep the wines safe and in their original condition until collection is made. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure and longevity. Red port can be made from many types of grapes (castas), but the main ones are Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional. At the heart of Graham's Port is the famous Quinta dos Malvedos which was completely renovated in 2000 and is now equipped with 3 revolutionary robotic lagares that 'tread' the grapes.

I've used Eton Vintners for many years and have always found the staff unfailingly helpful and wise. The second thing is the close relationship between the wine, the wood and time, which is crucial to producing exceptional, unforgettable fortified wines. One of the unique winemaking techniques followed here is the addition of the grape spirit during the fermentation of the grapes to add to the sweetness and longevity of the wines.

The wine's contact with the wood of the cask works hand-in-hand with time to create one of the world's greatest wines. Background: As one of the last Port companies with its own cooperage team, tending to each cask individually, GRAHAM's masters the art of making 30 Years Old Tawnies.
