Description

This eventful crime thriller is once again set in Aberdeen, Scotland, and we find DS Logan McRae, after having a good working relationship with DI Insch, but due a botched raid resulting in the death of PC Maitland, he's demoted to the Screw-Up Squad, let by the heavy smoking female DI Steel. appeared in some bizarre World War Two musical production; did my best to avoid eating haggis and generally ran about the place a lot. MacBride does not shrink from placing them in fascinating situations and his iconic character, Detective Sgt.

Logan is a compelling protagonist who escapes the faults given to so many fictional police heroes, that of despair, drunkenness, and/or complete cynicism. But less smooth that in the debut book; here we're faced with random pov changes throughout the book. Ho avuto l'impressione che in questo volume l'autore abbia iniziato a pensare ai sui personaggi con una prospettiva futura più ampia, dando loro una caratterizzazione più profonda. Pradžioje man ši knyga skaitėsi truputį sunkokai, bet kuo toliau skaitant, tuo labiau ji mane įtraukė. Logan pushes it too far, though, and the newsman is brutally attacked after introducing Logan to a powerful land developer. The author has created a police force obsessed with the objectification of women whether victims or colleagues . My problem comes from the language which seems to be one long run of curses and constant use of the "F" word. Not that there is no humour– the author has the ability to bring an ironic touch to the darkest scenes – but this is not a crime novel for the faint hearted. There were too many trips to the morgue for autopsies, too much time spent on stakeouts, and too much involvement in personal relationships. So if you are someone who does not enjoy this type of reading, I suggest you skip this series altogether.

Can get through gory reads if I care about the main character, but need that someone to champion, or that victim to worry about or want revenge for. Stuart MacBride is the author of several novels featuring DS Logan McRae, and the near-future thriller Halfhead. What is to follow is a gripping crime story with intertwining cases, consisting with sub plots and definite plots, and these cases will be solved in the end by DS McRae, in association with WPC Jackie Watson, DC Simon Rennie and DI Insch, due to perseverance and grit, while a colleague, friend and some others will get hurt or even die. No worries, as I jumped right in with no troubles to this outrageous Scottish detective series based in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Logan McRae is a talented, well intentioned policeman who seems to manage to not quite stuff things up. His boss in this episode was so disgusting and ever present that i could almost smell her chain smoked cigarettes. I am a fan of Stuart MacBride, and usually scarf up his books with delight, but with this one it has to be said that the constant trouble with his superiors is taking too much time away from the plot. Meanwhile, DI Insch's team are investigating a case of arson with multiple fatalities, into which McRae also becomes drawn. I. on Aberdeen’s police force, Steel’s team is made up of the “no-hopers,” the most worthless or inexperienced members of the homicide department, and Logan will do anything to prove he doesn’t belong there.

Soon enough several other cases will intertwine, with murder and arson as the main ingredients, and all this in the attempt to get full control over the drugs and prostitution businesses in the city of Aberdeen. I. Steele’s squad, (horrible character by the way) also known throughout Aberdeen law enforcement as the “fuck-up squad. Sometimes with series of books I find the first one excellent so really look forward to reading the next one and it ends up being a bit of a disappointment, but not this one, certainly not!

I've not read such a gritty and humorous crime series like this before where I could compare it to anything else. There's no care shown towards victims, apparent friends, or that poor guy who got shot on your raid - the one whose name you've not bothered to learn. Watson isn't allowed to shine - her replacement is already clear, and she'll likely wear flimsy lace bras. All in all this was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it strongly to any fans of the crime genre.
