My dtr t2110 BT Youview box is still working except the HDMI output does not. I have swapped HDMI leads and still does not work. I have factory reset with saved recordings and still not fixed. This device is WAY faster than my 'cutting edge' Virgin Tivo box, it gets far better access to Netflix, Now TV and iPlayer. And it follows that as the OS (in effect) of the device is on the mainboard it should be able to format a blank new hard drive without any problems. The problem is that your box doesn't appear to want to boot up properly even without the drive installed. So swapping the drive may not get you any further forward. I would have thought that the box would boot up without the drive but display a message that it can't find the drive rather that sit there continually attempting to detect it. It would be a pretty poor bit of software coding that didn't have a limit on how many attempts it makes to detect a drive before giving up and continue to the main screen.

At the moment that's all the app will do. There's potential to make it far more exciting by offering controls over the network, for example, so you wouldn't need to grab the remote, or to offer wider second-screen choices. Sadly, at the moment it's just about scheduling recordings. The (non-retail) DTR-T2100 is practically identical to the (retail) DTR-T2110 but comes in a plan brown box and the label on the underside identyfing as the DTR-T2100 'model'. There is no other difference. If I recall correctly even the on-screen system information menu does not differentiate the two. You should be fine with the BT box, I've had one for a few years now, bought as a refurb, and it's been pretty solid. It has little scope for tweaking settings, if you like to fiddle, but it does the job.I've just spent most of the day helping a friend install a new BT YouView box. Everything is working fine except:

Still having the original drive, that was still working (but being unreliable), I was able to clone it to the refurb drive. Compared with older models, experience from this BT is not only sleeker and faster than before, it offers more channels and more catch-up content than before too. Reasons I opted for this unit was because it had WiFi so no need to connect via cable for the streaming services. There are no fans, so it’s virtually silent except for the exceptionally quiet whirring of the laptop-style hard drive. Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Note that the Ultra HD version does have a fan, which can be a little irritating in a quiet room.Followed your instructions, (very easy to follow) and but for a reluctant disconnect on the hard drive, piece of cake. The recordings layout isn't as good as the Humax i think. The Humax gave you thumbnails of the shows all at once. I have a Philips 58pus8555 TV so really only want something for occasional recordings, no need for any smart bells & whistles as the TV has it all, it would help if it was fast and user friendly.

One of YouView’s best features is global search. Press the YouView button and choose Search – results will be shown from live TV as well as on-demand players and internet channels. Just to update things further, my ‘new’ drive is refurbished and was formatted in Windows. This I think was preventing the box seeing it and formatting it. I tried reformatting in exFAT too and that made no difference. It could be the HDD, but it could be the PSU as well - often high ESR capacitors in the PSU produce such symptoms, but also often cause other damage - including killing the HDD. Available separately is BT Sport, which is available in SD or HD. (It’s also in 4K UHD if you have the Ultra HD version of the set-top box.)There are 4 other resets and with the appropriate selection you can reload the software and keep your recordings. I live nearby, and when I bring my own Humax DTR-T1000 to their house it receives the above channels no problem. I get the channels no problems at my own house a mile away. The single most frustrating issue this device has is an *infrequent* syncing issue between audio and visual on recordings.
