Quality and Recommended Ingredients: The piercing solution is made of two ingredients. Pharmaceutical grade water, and sodium chloride. Pharmaceutical grade water means the water used has no added substances and meets all the required testing for purified water. Sodium chloride is more commonly known as salt. And that is it, there is no added chemicals, or substances that may cause harm to the body. The reason it is difficult to home make salt solution though (despite being able to make and keep it sterile) is because it is incredibly hard to mix the right amount of each product to be beneficial. Too much salt can dry out the skin and cause flakiness and irritation. Too much water can cause excessive moisture, which can cause those pesky red and wet looking irritation bumps. Manufacturers have all the right equipment to ensure the product is perfect. When researching proper aftercare practices, you’ll become inundated with tips, anecdotal truths, and other advice, some of which contradicts itself. If your belly button frequently folds inward, particularly when you slouch or sit, your piercer might advise against the navel piercing only because the healing process might be more difficult for you. Too much pressure will likely be placed on the jewelry, increasing the risk of rejection. This can happen in any body type, so you shouldn’t take offense if your piercer suggests another piercing. They want your piercing to be successful, and not all bodies can accommodate every piercing, regardless of location.

Before use, spray a short stream of Neil Cleanse Piercing Aftercare in the air or on intact skin to test the stream and clear the nozzle. Hot saline compresses are arguably the best, but its important not to boil off any water from your 0.9% sterile saline else it’ll be too salty! So take a clean pot with a lid and microwave some Neilmed in this pot and use clean gauze to apply the hot saline to your piercing (we want it hot but obviously not hot enough to burn you!) – the cons of this method is that its easy to contaminate your sterile saline if you aren’t confident with cross contamination, as the pot and microwave aren’t sterile, and also this is the most expensive method of hot compressing your piercings. Avoid moving or twisting the piercing whilst dry. If any secreted discharge has hardened on the jewellery, turning it may tear the skin, increase scarring and the risk of getting fluid build-ups, it will prolong healing and could leave you more susceptible to infection. Piercing sprays should only contain two ingredients: salt and water. While it is possible to use saline solution that’s not made specifically for piercings, you need to carefully read the ingredients to be sure that there are no additives. Additional ingredients are unnecessary when it comes to piercing aftercare, and they can irritate the healing piercing.

e lazier with their aftercare practices. While we always recommend stringent healing habits, we know that life gets in the way, and some people struggle with discipline. If this is you, then saline sprays offer an easy aftercare solution that only takes a moment of your time.

Chamomile is a daisy-like plant that is commonly used to make herb infusions to treat various medical problems or just to enjoy as a herbal tea. Anti-inflammatory effect – Several chemical compounds within chamomile such as bisabolol, chamazulene, apigenin, loteolin have anti-inflammatory properties (this is why its so helpful for soothing piercing problems!) Neilmeds piercing aftercare is a highly recommended and sought after product for a vast variety of reasons. The word ‘Chamomile’ translates via Latin and French from Greek and essentially means “Earth Apple”. It has the following incredible natural (and scientifically valid) medical effects:Saline baths are important to clear your piercing from harmful bacteria and dead skin cells that can cause infection. In the beginning, it’s a good idea to do a soak around two times a day for any piercing type.

Due to its placement, the navel piercing takes a minimum of 6 – 9 months to heal. (As always, this is only a minimum time, and you should have a piercer take a look to confirm that it has fully healed before stopping aftercare practices.)

When cleaning, ensure any balls or attachments on your jewellery are tightened as they can come loose easily due to the natural movement of the area. Saline solution is used in many ways, from cleaning wounds (like your piercing), treating dehydration, or clearing out nasal passages. (Keep in mind that even though saline solution has many uses, saline products vary, so if you have a saline solution product for a specific issue, consult a medical professional before using it for something else. We’ll talk more about this later.) To dispense, aim the nozzle at the affected area and spray from a distance of 2 to 4 inches, or as is comfortable.
