Icing/powdered sugar: used in the icing/glaze. Better than other sugar options as it dissolves more easily making for smoother glaze for your doughnuts! Granulated sugar: the larger granules in this sugar will give your doughnuts that wonderful sugar crunch. This recipe is already super chocolatey, but if you want to add some more, go right ahead! I think a drizzle of melted white chocolate over the top would look super effective against the dark chocolate bronuts.

If your Brownie Donuts turn out wet or soft, it's probably because they are undercooked. This can happen if your oven temperature is too low or if you don't cook them for long enough. Step 1: Brush your doughnut pan with some melted butter and set it aside. Preheat your oven to 180C/350F while you make your doughnut mixture. Yes! Brownie Donuts are actually quite easy to make. Because they are made using brownie batter, they're much easier to make than traditional yeasted doughnuts. The only special equipment you'll need for this recipe is the donut pan or donut mould for cooking your Brownie Donuts. To make the batter, you'll need measuring scales/cups, a bowl and a spoon/spatula.

Donut pan vs. deep fryer

Don’t fret though, if being creative with topping your doughnuts isn’t your forte, I’m also sharing three different ways you can decorate yours too: sugar doughnuts, sprinkles and glazed. Keep reading for all my top tips too! What ingredients do I need to make these baked doughnuts?

Digital kitchen scales*: my recommended method of measuring ingredients is to weigh them out using grams rather than cups. I do, however, provide cup measures too, if you prefer working with this method. This recipe isn't gluten-free as it contains plain (all purpose) wheat flour, but you could easily substitute the wheat flour for a gluten-free alternative. You'll need to cool your bronuts so that you can decorate them then, once they're iced, you won't be able to heat them again without the decorations melting off. If your Brownie Donuts turn out dry or crumbly, they are most likely overcooked. This can happen when you cook them for too long or when your oven temperature is too hot. So to avoid Why did my Brownie Donuts turn out wet/soft/dense? So first, you could try adding different spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter for a cosy Autumnal flavour. Or what about adding a few drops of mint or orange flavour too for a festive feel?Scatter some chocolate chips over the top, they'll be ready to bake for just 20 minutes or until they pass the skewer test.
