As good time as any to lay one’s hands on this revised and expanded biographico-critical survey of the British industrial scene past its inception phase in the late 1970s. England’s Hidden Reverse is an impressive, illustrated, hard backed volume coupled with a CD of music by Nurse With Wound, Current 93 and Coil. It's great, even when it gets into some of the acts I'm less interested in, the characters involved are still fascinating. England’s Hidden Reverse is a must-read for fans of Coil, C93 and NWW, and for fans of Keenan’s later fictional writings who want to see where he started from. I found it odd that the author referred to skinny puppy as an american band - when they originate from canada.

There's one hilarious top review on here bemoaning the fact that "hipster" David Keenan didn't get into the weeds of the various overtly nazi groups in the World Serpent orbit, which shows the sort of edgy posturing associated with some of this music. There's loads of detail and eyewitness accounts given for time in the studio and early live gigs by the main players (supplemented with like-minded cohorts: Drew McDowall, Rose McDowall, Stephen Thrower and Thighpaulsandra, etc. Established in 1962, the MIT Press is one of the largest and most distinguished university presses in the world and a leading publisher of books and journals at the intersection of science, technology, art, social science, and design.EDITION*** The secret history of the UK esoteric underground—aka the biography of Coil, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound—by Wire contributor and Volcanic Tongue co-founder, David Keenan. They are part of a lineage of outsider culture that exists in the margins if for no other reason than that is where popular culture has seen fit to place authenticity for centuries. David Tibet’s Current 93 had released two of their most personal and moving albums, Soft Black Stars (1998) and Sleep Has His House (2000). I’m going to be honest from the start – there’s no way I can be in any way objective about this stuff. So we are talking post-PTV offshoots - Christopherson and Balance’s justly celebrated Coil, myriad of David Tibet’s projects - as well as Stapleton and his nebulous Nurse With Wound orbit. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of books about the music and musicians toiling in virtual, cultural obscurity, but this is one of them, and this one is not to be missed.MIT Press Direct is a distinctive collection of influential MIT Press books curated for scholars and libraries worldwide.

Anyway, there was never a dull moment in reading England’s Hidden Reverse, and to those fans of Coil or the others who aren’t sure whether to pick a copy up, you simply must not hesitate. Jhonn and Sleazy helped ease this queer boy’s confusion, guided him through assorted chemical journeys, and kept him wondrous of the world. A rollicking ride through England's esoteric underground that had me keep coming back to it, over and over. This new volume contains almost 100 pages of extra material culled from Furfur, a collection of interviews with musicians and artists whose careers intersected with the bands', initially published alongside Strange Attractor's first limited edition of the book.
