This headphone will establish a reference point for your future purchases, and you will not find anything as good as this one in the market. If this is your first audiophile headphone, it's way better than any Sony/Beats bass, but nothing really special.

The keywords that come in to mind when listening to the HD599 are smooth, engaging and musical and all that in a very possible way. Honestly, I don't recommend paying more than 120 dollars for this headphone regardless of where you live.

It’s suitable for listening to most kinds of music, and it isolates significantly better than the Sennheiser HD 599. The Phillips have a certain crunchy sweetness in the treble which works very well for strings but can cause unpleasant sibilance in vocals especially female vocals. Trying a shoegaze track with high vocals like Sweetness and Light by Lush, the guitar volume seems too loud relative to everything else, while the soprano vocals are overwhelmed by the guitars (even for shoegaze). The best gaming headphones IMO, are the ones that are best at reproducing binaural soundfields accurately. Compared to the old 598 these have a more lively sound, the bass is very nice on these, while on the old 598 the bass was definitely lacking, also, these don't seem to have any "veil" compared to the old ones where, imo, everything sounded a bit distant and veiled.
