About this deal

The book begins with Christmassy cocktails, canapés and how to cater for lots of people without getting crazy (the later applies throughout the book – Nigella is a practical goddess), and moves through soups, salads, and sauces to suppers, big main dinners, sweet stuff and baking, edible presents, a full scale brunch menu, hot drinks, and two serious cures for overindulgence (as you might expect, they aren’t pristine – “I will never be a nil by mouth kind of person”). In true Nigella style, Kitchen is about the food we eat now, the way we eat and live today; feel-good food from the most important room in the house. Her cakes, as always, gladden the heart, and her ‘At-a-Glance Christmas Dinner Countdown’ helps take the stress and strain out of the Big Day itself. They aren’t complicated either – with basics like vanilla sugar, “Christmas Spiced Salt”, chutneys, vinegars, and peanut brittle. If you feel in need of some real seasoning this holiday, then get this book for yourself, well in advance of Christmas. After reading other reviews, I have requested it again because I did not read the text as well as I should have. This was indeed quite easy to make in advance of the big day and it kept well wrapped in baking parchment and tin foil in a baking tin, as instructed by Nigella. I must confess here that I’m one of those bah humbug types who is probably going to be visited by Jacob Marley in chains one of these day. Just in time for Christmas, Nigella Lawson has brought us a wonderful Christmas gift in her new cookbook Nigella Christmas.

We do not know how the mention of butternut cubes crept in here in place of onion; obviously the Butternut Fan Club has an underground agent at the publishers!

But, let's face it, when the pressure to feed and entertain builds up, the festive season can begin to lose its sparkle… That's where Nigella comes in. I like the idea of our family being together and celebrating being grateful and being under the same roof but that can be at any time. But I couldn't just end there: this is after all the season of glorious indulgence, so I had to give you my utterly ravishing but easy and no-cook Italian Christmas Pudding Cake and, of course, a little seasonal jollity in the form of my Chocolate Salame. But I do want to draw your attention, as well, to the Turkey Breast Stuffed with Italian Sausage and Marsala-Steeped Cranberries.

Discover the joy of reading with us, your trusted source for affordable books that do not compromise on quality. These are actually edible tree decorations and in years gone by I have made them to decorate my tree with. Though her latest book is big, beautiful, and expensive, it’s also one of those wonderful heirlooms that you could keep and refer to year after year.
