If you predict you will be shooting on the wider end mostly and value the compact nature of the XF 14mm f/2.8 R this may be a sound alternative. In the two sample images below you may see that the overall image quality is very similar with only a slight edge to the XF 14mm f/2.8 R. If I found myself at 24mm more often than not, I would make a point of using the XF 23mm F1.4 instead as this is the weakest portion of a zoom’s range. Then I’d probably end up shooting at f/1.4 a lot more too. The zoom is not the best option for a 35mm equivalent, but in a pinch, it works and only pixel-peepers might be able to tell the difference. 18mm If you pair the XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR with one of the few Fuji cameras that does have in-body IS, like the X-T4 that we tested the lens with, then the amount of stabilization available almost doubles to 6.5 stops of 5-axis image stabilisation. This is because the focus ring is a little narrower than on the original version by 3mm, smooth in action without being too loose, and has a ridged, rubberised grip band. This is a better-than-average lens for today, being mostly metal with a wonderful front metal filter thread and hood mount — but the rear mount oddly is cheap aluminum.

Maybe for other reasons, but not weight. If from what the OP said it was obvious that UW would be a regular need along with the desire to have longer focal lenght, then yes. Above left: Fuji XF 16mm f1.4 at f8, above right: Fuji XF 10-24mm at 16mm f8. 100% crops from centre of JPEGs With a 7-blade rounded diaphragm I get 14-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light only at the smallest apertures. While it’s not going to win any awards as the world’s fastest lens, I found the focusing system on this Fuji to be quite fast and reliable. At f/4 there’s a minimal amount of softness evident but it doesn’t jump out nor does it appear as distortion – this is true in both the 10mm and 24mm focus distances. At f/8 you have a complete edge to edge sharpness.

The edges are soft. While that can add some character, if you are looking for an uber-sharp lens, this isn’t it. The Fujifilm XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR is a relatively compact ultra-wide zoom, especially when compared to the other similar lens in the X-series line-up, the XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR. There are no better lenses to use on the Fuji system at any price. Forget slumming with LEICA or other off-brand lenses; you can't get anything sharper and any other lens won't autofocus or autoexpose or log data or be optimized by the camera's DSP, and no other lens will have a diaphragm that opens and closes automatically as needed for focus and shooting. The lens is otherwise characterized by these rings. The aperture ring is closest to the mount. Then there’s a zoom ring. And in the front is the focus ring. The zoom ring has a textured rubber area to it.CA isn't too bad from what I've seen so far; definitely better than some of the other wide lenses I've used. It measures 77.6mm x 87mm and weighs in at 385g, compared to the much bigger and heavier XF 8-16mm which measures 88mm x 121.5mm and weighs 805g.

The Ahwahnee, Yosemite Valley, 8:41 AM. Fuji X-T1, Fuji 10-24mm at 10mm, f/4 at 1/8 hand held at Auto ISO 250, Athentech Perfectly Clear. Full Resolution. But, shooting at f4 at 10mm, the sharpness falls off towards the last quarter of the image and is particularly poor in the corners. F8 is much sharper, with only a bit of softness left on the corners. Shooting at 24mm is a similar story, with quite a bit of edge blur. A close corner crop of the image above. The focal point was placed on the dead Queen Anne’s Lace. Shot at 24mm, f/4. Which lens would you get for general purpose landscape travel? Would it depend on what body you have? eg. x-h1 vs x-t3. Debating which of the two to carry and thinking that the 10-24 might require another lens to complement it such as 35/50/55-200. But what if you could only carry one lens as a do-it-all solution? Sitting in my basement with a single floor lamp on, I did a test, focusing on a speaker across the room. Here’s the success/failure rate: Camera If you shoot raw and use non-manufacturer software to process the raw data into images, that software is unlikely to be able to correct the distortion as is done in-camera as JPGs.

The Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR is Fujifilm’s more affordable ultra-wide zoom, now new and improved

The Auto Focus system has also been improved by using light weight focusing elements and as a result the AF is fast and near silent.

The rounded blades soften the points as opened up. They're good at f/16 and starting to disappear at f/11. They're gone at f/8, f/5.6 and f/4. Fujifilm’s XF 10-24mm F4 OIS covers a fairly substantial range, from 15mm, all the way to 36mm in 35mm equivalence. That’s 1mm narrower on the wide end than I had on full frame, but a full 12mm more on the long end of the focal range. The question is, can Fuji’s ultra-wide to wide angle zoom produce photos at a standard of quality that truly realizes its convenience? Testing notes:

What little pincushion distortion there is at most settings can be corrected for more critical use by plugging these figures into Photoshop's The Fujifilm XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR lens has an internal focusing (IF) system with a very quiet stepping motor. In practice, we found the auto-focus to be fast and accurate on the latest X-T4 camera. This is an ultrawide and even though it can focus to within just a few inches from the front of the lens, it doesn't look that close. The aperture ring free-spins with no stops at the end nor does it have the usual aperture markings – this ring feels lower quality than the rest of the body parts. The Fujifilm 10-24mm WR lens boasts a metal mount, high-grade plastic barrel and a non-rotating 72mm metal filter thread.
