Description

It’s a handheld that uses a metal shell instead of plastic, giving it an incredibly premium feel which ANBERNIC have become famous for over the years. The factory will receive the motherboard and related materials for the patch tomorrow, or the day after. We will take photos for everyone, and the engineer machine is expected to interview before the end of the month. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows because the build quality is a little sub-par and the operating system used is incredibly poor, to a point where it reminded us of Windows 98. This time the GoRetroid team went for more power, and added a Octa-core T618 CPU with 4GB’s of RAM and a stunning 4.7″ touch-screen display.

It is built for gamers wanting to explore games in different ways, allowing new and old indie games developers to get involved with the release of weekly games on release day of the PlayDate.

AYANEO’s ultra-thin OLED handheld is officially exposed. After many handheld designs, we have integrated the best look, shape and feel. Ultra-thin and light is its soul, and we also give it an excellent grip, which is what I have accumulated as a handheld player for decades”.

As soon as we pulled the handheld out of the box it felt as if it was meant to be in our best retro handhelds list. The small nature of it, alongside the subtle Gameboy DMG features makes it feel like a genuine Nintendo Gameboy Mini. GoRetroid made some unethical marketing decisions when launching this handheld. They launched the original 3 in June/July, and then just two months later revealed a better, newer handheld, leaving older customers in the dust feeling like they have been taken advantage of. What makes the RG280V so great is the small, portable form factor teamed up with a large 2.8″ display with a glass cover. There will be plastic variants with the potential to upgrade RAM to 4GB, and a possible metal addition that comes with 4GB RAM as basic. ANBERNIC are renowned for doing a great job with the build quality of their products and this handheld follows suit. This is a handheld that will last for years to come and will happily take bumps and scratches along the way. The RG351P is by far one of the best retro handhelds on the market. It’s the intersection of superb build quality, a trusted name and power. For those that don’t know, ANBERNIC create some of the best retro handhelds on the market, and their RG351V was by far one of their best products, and in fact it is probably the best affordable vertical handheld emulator on the market to this day.

As of now there’s no rumours of release dates, nor are there any pricing leaks and this is probably because the man behind this device doesn’t want to get peoples hopes up, just in case something goes wrong.

Over its development lifespan niluanxy has settled on multiple different SoC choices for the KT R1(c), only to later discover that they were not available anymore or prohibitively expensive. Amlogic S922x was the original choice but a Unisoc T618, Snapdragon 845 and Unisoc T610 were also shortlisted at various points. Thankfully though, it looks like the brains of the device have finally been cemented. The KT R1c will (probably) be powered by a brand new SoC, the MediaTek Helio G99, aka the MT6789V. The Miyo Mini features a 1.2GHZ CPU, 128MB RAM, a 2.8″ IPS display (640 x 480) and 1900mah’s of battery. On paper this is nothing special, but its a modern chip inside which allows this little thing to emulate Playstation games fairly well! Instead I would wish that the development would focus on taking new directions. This would mean that one company manages to develop such an ultimate handheld and the community focussing on that one so the developers can’t make a profit in “only” providing another handheld for Dreamcast, PSP and N64 and instead would try to develop handhelds with the capability of emulating Dreamcast, Wii and PS2 below the price range of the GPD Win. The team have even crafted their own operating system, allowing you to get around the menus with ease, save states with the press of a button and load up your game art to make it easier for you to manage. For those that have never heard of the handheld it’s basically the world’s smallest clamshell handheld, designed by a small team of passionate handheld fans.
