Karen loves to spell words. She is very good at it, too. First she wins the spelling bee in her class. Then Karen wins another spelling contest. And another . . . and another! Soon Karen might be the best junior speller in the state of Connecticut. She's even going to be on TV!

Portrait Collections: These are autobiographies of The Baby-Sitters Club members (Stacey, Claudia, Dawn, Mary Anne, Kristy, and Abby). Mallory and Jessi were not included because the autobiographies were an eighth grade project only. Logan and Shannon were also not included because they were either unpublished or unwritten. Logan Bruno likes Mary Anne! He has a dreamy southern accent, he's awfully cute--and he wants to join the Baby-sitters Club. From Book 1: A graphic novel adapted and illustrated by Raina Telgemeier, the #1 New York Times bestselling, multiple Eisner Award-winning author of Smile!

Mary Anne should never have thrown away that chain letter she got in the mail. Ever since she did, bad things have been happening-to everybody in the Baby-sitters Club. With Halloween coming up, Mary Anne's even more worried-what kind of spooky thing will happen next? The Mancusis don't have any kids . . . but they sure have a lot of pets! So when they're desperate for a sitter, whom do they call? The Baby-sitters Club! The Babysitters Club characters now also star in their own Netflix show, with all the drama and humour of the original stories.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Karen's best friend Hannie just got an adorable new kitten. Their neighbor Amanda has a cat, too, and Karen has grumpy old Boo-Boo. Now that they all have cats, Karen comes up with a great idea. She wants to start a Kittycat Club! With the exception of Super Specials and Super Mysteries, the novels are written and narrated from one character's point of view. [6] The novels generally follow this format: Claudia has always been the most creative kid in her class... until Ashley Wyeth comes along. Ashley's really different: She wears hippie clothes and has multiple earrings, and she's the most fantastic artist Claudia has ever met.

Abby was supposed to be called Lucy Ricardo after Ann M. Martin's favorite show I Love Lucy and Anna was called Ethel after Lucy's best friend. But the name the twins contest was made to guess the twin's names and Abby and Anna Stevenson were chosen by Martin and her editors. Abby and Anna Stevenson were made up by Sara Ruth Bell of Missouri who was the winner of the contest.

As the newest member of the BSC, Dawn is eager to prove herself. So when a big job comes along, she jumps at the chance to show everyone what she's made of. The graphic novels are faithful updates to the original stories. They accurately retell the story, keeping the same themes and character dynamics. Anything that hasn’t aged well for modern readers has been removed or revised. But Karen's new grandmother is so different! Grandma B makes Karen listen to old music. And she teaches Karen funny dances, like the foxtrot. Kristy's mom got married again last summer and now Kristy and her family live in a new neighborhood. The kids there aren't very friendly. In fact, they're...well, snobs. They criticize Kristy's clothes. They make fun of the Baby-sitters Club. And worst of all, they laugh at Louie, Kristy's pet collie, who's going blind. Nobody does that and gets away with it! Since its publication the series has been adapted into other forms of media. Two TV series were made, the first ran on HBO in 1990 and a reboot by Netflix ran between 2020 and 2021. A theatrical film also premiered in 1995.

Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novels Series - Goodreads

Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Later in 2015, after the popularity of some of Telgemeier's other books, the first four graphic novels were re-released in full color by Barden Lamb. Because they continued to be popular, more are being produced with new authors and illustrators: Gale Galligan for graphic novels #5-8, Gabriela Epstein and Chan Chau alternating for graphic novels #9-12, and new artists for various books announced afterwards. As the first book in the series, there’s no doubt that this one is special. But whether its because I love the original one or that the other stories go more in depth into specific storylines, this one didn’t really stand out here. That being said, it definitely has its charm. It is after all the start of a series that pretty much changed my life. Why else would I be writing about it more than ten years after I first read the books.I was delighted to see that the Baby-Sitters Club would be getting full colour graphic novels. I haven't read all of the Baby-Sitters Club, but I have... It’s unclear why The Ghost at Dawn's House and Little Miss Stoneybrook ...and Dawn have not been adapted into graphic novels, but it's likely either due to plot or character reasons. Currently Dawn has only been the narrator of one book, while Mallory did not narrate a book until Mallory and the Trouble with Twins (her debut book was integrated into Dawn's). It depicted the lives of Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey the summer before the school year began. [21] Mallory knows she's a good baby-sitter. She's been looking after her seven younger brothers and sisters for years. So when Kristy offers her a steady job baby-sitting for the Arnold twins, Mal thinks it'll be easy money.
