However, he’s quickly swept up in a hilarious and crazy plot that sees the nobody being forced to break away from his narrow lifestyle and develop new skills as the Lego saviour, The Special. Added to that is the epic concept of the Master Builder, who can whip up anything they want out the little bricks around them without the need for a manual, and you’ve got a lot to hold your attention in the action packed movie. The other aspect of The Lego Movie that just doesn’t sit right for us is the random inclusion of a stint in the real world, which makes the film a little too long and slows it down, just as it’s approaching fever pitch. The kids and parents love it equally and you will end with a reminisce of yesteryear and a warm fuzzy feeling and a big smile on everyone’s face.

Without the larger than life size of the vast Lego construction on a cinema screen, the notion of the little blocks that have gone into it all are sort of lost a little. In terms of the film’s rating, it comes with an obvious U for Universal and there’s really nothing for parents to worry about in terms of exposure, though the movie does deal with strained father-son relationships. Although, for you lucky few, you’d probably be better off opting for Blu-ray and 3D visuals to really get the most out of the home entertainment release. The Lego Movie DVD runs for just over an hour and half and it introduces us to a construction worker (Monkey just loved that idea) Emmet. Lego construction worker Emmet, played by Chris Pratt ( Guardians Of The Galaxy) is taken to be the city’s fabled saviour, The Special, by the blind Gandalf-like wizard, Vitruvius, who’s voiced brilliantly by Morgan Freeman ( Oblivion). He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers -- including an old mystic (voiced by Morgan Freeman) and LEGO Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) -- on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together -- a journey for which Emmett is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared. Pratt, Ferrell, Neeson and Freeman are joined by an equally left field and big name cast combination that includes everyone from Jonah Hill as Green Lantern, Channing Tatum as Superman, Nick Offerman as Metalbeard and Will Arnett as Batman.

The film received positive reviews from fans and critics and, after the DVD release, a sequel was set to star Clutch as the hero again. The animation and visuals are very impressive, blending a beautiful stop-motion style with CGI bolt ons to create such a stunning looking film.It may go over the heads of the younger audience but makes so much sense when you think back – and takes you back to your own childhood.

Included as part of a bundle with Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis in some editions. It's going to take the aid of the heroic minifigures Wyldstyle, Vitruvius, Uni-Kitty and several legendary DC Comics minifigures for Emmet to get through this strange case of mistaken identity and save the Lego universe. With the help of Lego Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the random Pirate Metal Beard, and Emmet’s love interest Wyldstyle, they face up against the nefarious Lord Business, played by Will Ferrell ( Anchorman: The Legend Continues), and his henchman Bad Cop, played by Liam Neeson ( The A-Team Movie), and their plot to glue all of the bricks together and bring Bricksburg screeching to its knees.

Building on the success of the toys and the more recent brilliance of Lego game, the dutch block heads ventured into the world of cinema recently with the smash hit film, The Lego Movie, so the upcoming release on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download should continue to pile on the gold bricks for them. Set in the Lego Construction universe and lending a lot from the plot and concept of Lego City Undercover, the movie is a “zero to sort of hero” story.
