There is a reason why Harlan Coben is one of my most trusted and favourite authors. His books are always clever and full of twists that keep you guessing right until the very end. A rainy day in Sydney saw me curl up and get lost in Wilde's world and I loved every minute of it. Coben keeps you on edge, waiting to see if Wilde will learn about his past and connect with his mother and father. Hester helps him escape and Oren tells them that the gun that killed Henry was also used to kill Katherine Frole, an FBI agent. The FBI thinks Peter committed suicide. Oren and Hester tell Wilde he either needs to turn himself in or go on the run. In this endeavor Wilde is assisted by his friends, including famous criminal attorney Hester Crimstein and Hester's sheriff boyfriend Oren Carmichael; So, what brought them together? That's the subject of the 1st half of the book. Basically, what made it happen was the third big trend in golf at that time: Bing Crosby. Crosby created the pro-am almost singlehandedly with his bacchanal known as the Clambake. It was a drinkfest, skirt-chasing, celebrity golf tournament that he hosted at Pebble Beach and Cypress Creek each January, and it helped to bring pro golf into the limelight by attracting Hollywood stars and putting them together with pro golfers and big-time businessmen.

In 1923, when Morse’s second course, the Monterrey Peninsula CC was being built, Morse hired a thirty-year-old woman named Marion Hollins as the athletic director of his Pebble Beach Resort. The way the men's lives were intertwined was remarkable, and a reminder that the world of golf was very small in those days. Nelson and Hogan were caddies at the same Fort Worth, Texas, golf course at the same time, and Nelson (a few years older) beat Hogan in the caddie championship in a playoff. Then they shared cars and motel rooms as they tested the pro tour. They became good friends as each tried to make it, and even their wives became great friends. Only a falling out as Nelson reached the pinnacle first, and Hogan took a much more painful and arduous route, led their friendship astray. Wilde was the drawing card for this one; I wanted to know more. The story line for this one was a little convoluted and I was very much wanting to hear of Wilde's past. I mean, I guess this is what we got, but some of the main answers were given but I was a little underwhelmed with the big reveal. Even in the dialogue of the was this was presented underwhelmed me somewhat - BUT - I still enjoyed it a lot. I also applaud Coben for actually taking time on character development. Wilde struggles with commitment, but he’s willing to attempt to grow and develop relationships.

The facts of the book (Sofia’s age of early 60s and Shirley having dementia and being in a care home) do suggest a greater age difference between Sofia and Shirley than typical siblings. I was still happy to rate at four stars, but did enjoy number one more. I do love how Hester Crimstein is heavily involved with Wilde, and his friendship with her son still reminiced upon and mentioned heavily. There is more to this, and Wilde won't budge. I was a little disappointed in the action of her beau, Oran, when things went awry, and thought that Hester may have been a little more fired up than she was.

Even if I wasn't all *heart eyes* for the romance, the interactions between Sam and Evie, and Joanna and Evie alone would've made this book worth reading :') Single dad with trust issues but also really caring and loving. He's also hot you know... which makes it 100% better than it already is. When a troll is deemed to have crossed the line with despicable/damaging comments, Boomerang takes action, and the 'revenge' is commensurate with the offense, though killing is definitely OFF the table. An easy 5 star review for me. Get a copy of this, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.' Read more Look Inside Details Favorite Quote: “Evie is here with me. I can smell the coconut scent lingering in her hair and hear her taking deep breaths as she sleeps. This feels right, and I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to keep convincing myself that we’re just two casual friends dating. This feels a lot like falling in love.”

His swing was considered a thing of beauty and perfection, which he could execute perfectly, over and over, having spent hundreds of hours on the practice range hitting scores of thousands of balls. Hogan and his wife had been involved in a horrendous traffic accident in February 1949. He had thrown his body in front of his wife in the passenger seat, saving her life. The injuries he sustained caused doctors to advise him that he might never walk again, let alone play golf. But Hogan played a good round of golf in December. The next month he tied for first place in the Los Angeles Open. Hay cosas muy raras que tratan de hacerse pasar por cosas románticas. Por ejemplo, Evie husmeó en la habitación de Jake y él lo tomó como algo muuuuy agradable.
