With most dynamic drivers, it’s typical to hear a roll-off, particularly with the sub-bass region. However, with the FD3, it isn’t as pronounced as I have come to expect. I think this is partly due to the frequency response rating of the FD3, where it starts at 10Hz, which allows it to roll off at a lower frequency than usual.
If we pull apart the Jade-Series, comprising of the JD3, JH3 and JD7 (terrific one for the price) FiiO’s in-ears range splits into three different categories: Upstream, FiiO also employs second-generation asymmetric internal and external magnetic circuit systems. The carrying case that arrives with the FD3 is the typical clear clamshell case that arrives with most other FiiO IEMs. I raved about this accessory before because it even came with their entry-level FD1. This is still a nice addition to an IEM at the FD3’s price point though.

FiiO FD3 IEMS vs IKKO OH1 Meteor (110 USD vs 140 USD) - Meteor is the first basshead IEM I am comparing the FD3 to, and this comparison is actually quite easy, because FD3 has more detail, and more resolution, as well as a slightly more comfortable fit and design than OH1 Meteor. The actual sound is more peppy in the treble on FD3, which has more sparkle and air, while Meteor sounds more smooth and rolled off in the treble. The Meteor also has more bass quantity, where FD3 is more fluid. Stage is wider on the Meteor, which is a fairly wide sounding IEM. Detail is better on FD3 which has more overall details. Dropping this on a good portable amp opened this product up, significantly. As mentioned, boosting on the bottom or top side, but also with a good amount of juice behind it, makes this IEM invert into a different product. Also, there is no ¼ adapter in the box, so you’ll need one of those two if you are using a larger amplifier or a portable one with a large normal ¼ output.
