Description

isn't SFX, it's SFX-L. None of the other SFX and SFX-L makers stoop to this level of bullshit marketing, TT. No other company does this "well technically it's all officially SFX" because they understand that the extra 25mm makes or breaks SFF builds.Yep, this is pretty terrible marketing wise. Looks like a good PSU (though of course that can't be judged from specs alone), but being clear about its form factor is a pretty basic requirement. Then again, this is Thermaltake. Their slogan might as well be "There is always something wrong with our products". Photography for this review is completed inhouse with a Canon 1DX MK2 with 50mm f1.2 Prime lens and a Leica S series medium format camera with S series prime lens. Please do not use any of the images within this review without express permission. Due to public requests we have changed our temperature settings recently – previously we rated with ambient temperatures at 25C, we have increased ambient temperatures by 10c (to 35c) in our environment to greater reflect warmer internal chassis conditions.

If you are interested in being “green” and saving the planet, you might like to read a short explanation of how our power supplies can save energy using Active PFC (Power Factor Correction), not to be confused with Power Conversion Efficiency which is also very good in most of our PSUs. “Power Factor” is a measure of how efficiently electrical power is consumed. Ideally, Power Factor would be 1 (or 100%) and known as unity. Technically there is little, if anything we can fault. Load Regulation is first class, and the unit meets Platinum efficiency levels without a hiccup. The unit design produces tight control over AC ripple mV and we recorded stellar results, even under full load conditions. Seasonic recently released an SFX PSU with 750 W maximum power output in an attempt to dethrone the mighty Corsair SF750 Platinum, which is the best currently available SFX PSU offering. A significant advantage the SPX-750 has over the SF750 is the long 10-year warranty, as the Corsair offers 7 years for its flagship SFX offering. In my opinion, anything above five years is unreasonable when it comes to power supplies, which are highly dependent on the quality of the mains grid, and external factors can affect the latter (e.g., thunderbolts). If a power surge or brownout damages your PSU, the warranty won't cover it, which is reasonable because PSU manufacturers are not responsible for the power grid's quality. It is not usually practical to reach unity, i.e. Power Factor 1, and it seems that most electricity supply companies accept consumers having a Power Factor as low as 0.94 (94%) without imposing a surcharge. Unfortunately most of the cheap (and not so cheerful) PSUs tend to have a Passive PF as low as 0.75 or 75% which in a large office can lead to a PF surcharge. The most powerful SFX power supply in the market, perfect for the most power-dense small-form-factor PCs. 80 PLUS PLATINUM CERTIFIED

Closing Thoughts

The SF750 Platinum delivers power at up to 92% efficiency, lowering energy consumption, noise, temperatures, and your power bill. JAPANESE 105°C CAPACITORS However, the good news is that most of Quiet PC’s PSUs implement a system known as Active PFC which involves some clever electronics. This means that their power factor (PF) can be as high as 0.94 or 94% (at full load), while harmful harmonic frequencies are reduced to well below legal requirements. So by using our products, you can be happy in the knowledge that you are doing your bit to save the planet!

Sep 7th 2023 Thermaltake Reveals Matcha Green Lineup: Ceres 300 TG ARGB Mid Tower Chassis & ARGENT E700 Real Leather Gaming Chair (8) Unfortunately in the real world, Power Factor is reduced by highly inductive loads down to values of 0.7 (70%) or less. This induction is caused by equipment such as small electric motors, fans, fluorescent lighting ballasts and transformers such as those in PSUs. This is bad news for the electricity generating companies who can impose a surcharge on heavy users if they have a consistently low Power Factor, as more electricity has to be produced to make up the shortfall. The unit passes our Cross Load testing without any problems. When hit with 60 AMPS the +12V rail held at 11.88. Not a very realistic situation in real life, but a good sign that the design works well. An Unprecedented 750 Watt SFX PSU: Harness 750 continuous watts in SFX form, perfect for the most power-dense small-form-factor PCs. Load regulation proves to be very good, holding within 2% of the recommended guidelines. Corsair SF750 SFXNext we want to try Cross Loading. This basically means loads which are not balanced. If a PC for instance needs 500W on the +12V outputs but something like 30W via the combined 3.3V and +5V outputs then the voltage regulation can fluctuate badly. Cross Load Testing This Phanteks SFX PSU is 80 Plus Platinum certified, achieving 92% efficiency at 50% system load. Not only is this power supply efficient, the Revolt SFX is equipped with a silent zero RPM mode. This means when the PSU is below 30% system load the high quality 92mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan is inactive, enabling ultimate silence. Phanteks Revolt SFX 750W 80 Plus Platinum PSU Specifications: PSU Dimensions (L x W x H) Featuring a 92 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan (120 mm in 1000 W) to guarantee superior cooling performance. Thermaltake, the leading PC DIY premium brand for Case, Cooling, Gaming peripherals, and enthusiast memory solutions, is excited to announce their latest addition to the PSU lineups, the Toughpower SFX series, which is designed to meet ATX 3.0 standards and is PCIe Gen 5.0 ready. Designed to run with the RTX 40-series series graphics cards and the latest Intel CPUs, the Toughpower series comes with an SFX-sized form factor and fits in the mainstream ATX and ITX cases, which is essential for users looking to put together a smaller-footprint build. The following are the Toughpower SFX series's dimension for your reference. 750 W & 850 W: 125 mm (W)x63.5 mm (H)x100 mm (D); 1000 W: 125 mm (W)x63.5 mm (H)x126 mm (D).

SF Series power supplies give you 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency, excellent electrical performance, and virtually silent operation in a SFX form factor. With 105°C Japanese capacitors and Zero RPM fan mode, they’re a great choice for high performance small form factor PC’s where reliability and low noise are essential. AN UNPRECEDENTED 750 WATT SFX PSU Corsair are keen to point out that lowering noise is one of their key focus points with the SF750. Many small form factor power supplies are equipped with a tiny 80mm fan, which are typically known to generate a lot of noise. By moving to a 90mm fan, they are able to spin the fan slower while producing good levels of airflow – all while reducing noise emissions. They also state that due to careful component selection that coil whine will not be a problem. I will test this out later. Other compromises include a rifle-bearing fan, a semi-modular PSU design, and a relatively short five-year warranty. None of these are deal-breakers, but they definitely reflect the BM2’s budget price. Bronze efficiency isn’t great either, but acceptable in this price range. This is the first desktop PSU with fan failure protection I have come across. In other words, if the fan has a problem or the PSU doesn't detect it, which would happen if it isn't connected, the SPX-750 won't start. Zero RPM Fan Mode: The fan stays off until it’s needed, for silent operation at low and medium loads.PLUS Platinum Certification: Ensures ultra-high efficiency operation for less excess heat and lower operating costs.
