There are seven books in the series - so if I read slowly hopefully Sylvia will finish Vow of the Shadow King by the time I'm done! I don’t want to spoil it because if I have to label this review as a spoiler people won’t see it and be forewarned - as I wasn’t - that this book gets really disturbing out of nowhere. He should be kissing her feet for continuing with the alliance, instead, he's treating her horribly. I think the answer lies with Faraine - her powers quite obviously resonate with the stones in the Under Lands.

It’s perfect for fantasy fans looking for a touch of spice to go with the sweet in their next swoony, slow-burn romance. The emotions of others can overwhelm her, especially when she is around lots of people or when they make physical contact, leaving her in pain. The banter/dialogue seems very modern and awkward It would make sense if the book was set in the future but this one is set in a world where chamber pots are used. A sequel novel, The Scarlet Veil, featuring vampires also released recently and I'm looking forward to checking it out.And vise versa when Faraine was disguised and had to travel to the under realm, feeling as though she was going to be crushed! With fantastic chemistry between the two protagonists (who I knew I would be rooting for from their first meeting! I love how the Troldefolk were afraid of the open sky and air, seeing the vast openness made them feel uncomfortable as they are under ground dwelling. I'm not sure what made this so dull for me, because there were some plot points that should have been really exciting. I'd say his terrible reaction is more of a betrayal to Faraine, and worse, because his reaction is all on him.

I can understand why Vor accused Sul of poisoning the drink, but it was also such an explosive situation, not knowing if Vor was going to kill Sul.I’m a huge fan of slow-burn fantasy romances so jumped at the chance to read this (especially after seeing Daphne Press’ stunning new cover. The story line is compelling read and I zipped through the book in no time whilst painting and decorating my house! As well as the romance plotline, there are also large stakes at play for both Faraine and Vor’s people and I felt there was a good balance of time given between the romance and wider conflicts. I was sort of on board until they killed off the sister and made the MCF take her place and her face.

I get very impatient, and just want to grab the characters heads and force them to speak and work their issues immediately. For fans of The Bridge Kingdom and A Deal with the Elf King, this sweeping tale of love and betrayal is equal blends sweet and spice. I loved the fact I couldn’t necessarily predict where the story was going, what characters motives or actions would be and it definitely keeps you on the edge of your toes.I'm Sylvia: cat-lover, tea-drinker, book-addict, and avid fan of the Kickbutt Heroine Fantasy Genre! While the focus is of course on Faraine and Vor, other characters and relationships are not neglected.

And as I haven’t finished the book, I’m not sure if that actually happened or if the princess just planned it to run away? Yok, Sul, Hael, I loved them all really💙The writing in this was stunning and everything flowed so well. There are also some repeated swearing in trolde fashion (meaning we don't know what those words mean).

I know for a fact it's going to be pretty tortuous waiting a year in eager anticipation for book three though! The only way to secure such a force, is to bind himself through marriage with the beloved daughter of his rival king. The world: This is my second time reading from this world, and in this is a different slice of it from my previous visit.
