Not enough to spoil my overall enjoyment, maybe enough to drop it half a star ratings wise, but not quite.

Unfortunately his little brother is easily led, and this time has landed them both in a whole lot of bother. Decent characters with potential to be expanded on when the next one is released, and of course a nice setting of a Snooker Club to which our main character runs.Frankie was a likeable character and I enjoyed following him across London as he attempted to work out what happened and how his brother turned up on his doorstep covered in blood.

Fairly functional crime thriller in which a young nightclub owner has to prove the innocence of his younger brother who has been accused of murder.

There is a clear autobiographical tone to Framed, to the point that it becomes nigh on impossible not to read Frankie’s mental commentaries in Ronnie’s voice. Ronnie's own life story is fascinating, and as a template for a character, Ronnie himself is a great place to start.

My interest was piqued so much that as soon as I got in, I had a squiz at the reviews and, seeing them as mostly positive, duly downloaded it. I was driving home from work one afternoon, listening to my favourite sports radio station and the hosts were about to interview Ronnie O'Sullivan. Not the biggest fan of the writing style, lots of repetition with the sentences, but an easy read with a clear plot.

His frank memoir, which reads like a transcript from the psychiatrist's coach, explains that running - and the running community - gave him a sense of acceptance and achievement. Amidst this teeming underworld of brothels, gambling dens and, yes, snooker clubs, Frankie must try to say one step ahead of gangland undesirables and the smelly old bill. This is a fast paced debut novel from Ronnie O’Sullivan (Snooker Player) which grips you right from the start to the very end, I enjoyed it and will read the next one "Double Kiss" (book 2 in the Soho Nights series.

Be advised though that there is a lot of bad language, but for me this made the story more gritty and real. It stars Frankie James – like Barnes, an author surrogate for O'Sullivan himself – a smart, capable guy from a colourful background, who is jostled from his day job running a snooker club so he can investigate a murder for which his hapless younger brother has been implicated. There is a wit and verve to Frankie's character that's just a shade above the lowest common denominator, and the depictions of his brother Jack as a queasily aimless stooge can be genuinely well drafted.Yes there are a few things that have been introduced in this book that I am sure we will be revisiting in subsequent books but this opener didn't waste time and words in over complicating things. What’s also fun is the casual name-drop of the author into the conversation of two sarcastic snooker players, which produces an unnerving effect not unlike when a real city is referred to in Kafka. I found myself coming back to it and wanting to get through to the next chapter to see what was coming next.
