Description

There are many appealing areas of heathland and pine woodland in the south west corner of the New Forest. The walk is mostly graveled but subject to quite a bit of waterlogging especially at the Burbush car park end, so wellies are a must except in the driest possible conditions. There are water courses too all along the route so dogs that stray from the path will get dirty!

History – The Old Station Tea Rooms Holmsley

Went today for afternoon tea and was really disappointed!!! I was with a friend so didn't feel I could complain in front of her. The savoury cream tea scones were microwaved so not very nice as they were chewy and soft not crispy as they should be, even my friends sweet cream tea scones were on the very well done. This is the second time I’ve been to the New Forest and I still find it completely breathtaking. In a time where it feels like every scrap of land is being built on, to find such an expanse of green is heartwarming. I love seeing the horses and cows roaming free too. They never seemed bothered by us in the slightest and Poppy is used to seeing different animals now so she’s not bothered by them anymore either. We hope you will visit again, you can book online or by phone up to 6 months ahead, or on 47 weekends of the year we should be able to squeeze you in without booking. After enjoying a couple of hours at Christchurch front the weather started to deteriorate so we thought about where would be a good place to stop on the way home. The old station tea rooms at Holmsley was on the route home and we have always enjoyed stopping off here. The growing popularity of the cars in the 1950’s meant a serious assessment was made of the network, culminating in the now infamous Beeching Report in 1963.Perfect afternoon tea is always available , we frequently go here for lunch or coffee and cake . With indoor and outdoor seating and our dog is welcome in the outside area. Good service and good food The Old Station Tea Rooms at Holmsley has suffered significantly since the work started on replacing the nearby road bridge. My advice is don't even think about trying to get breakfast here, after arriving home from Normandy at midnight on Saturday 17th my wife and I thought it would be nice to have breakfast at Holmsley, where we have had excellent food on other occasions, but we were turned away as we hadn't booked! Since when has it become necessary to book for breakfast and how far in advance do I need to book? Needless to say I will not be returning to Holmsley Tea Rooms again.

The Old Station Tea Rooms Holmsley

We appreciate that you have enjoyed your visits in the past and that you consider our food to be excellent. You are not alone, as you saw on the 18th, we do get very busy. The 18th of June was Father’s Day, this is always in our top 5 busiest days of the year. Needless to say, many dads were getting treated to our excellent breakfasts.Absolutely abysmal service. It was less... than half full inside, with nobody seated outside. We were shown to a table and left with menus (it was 3pm so we only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake each). The young girl disappeared to …More The trail passes along a disused railway line from Burley to Holmsley Tea Rooms which is in the old disused station. There are still a few remnants of the railway which are interesting features. Facing three months of minimal trade, Mr Jensen scrapped plans for a refurbishment of the tea rooms. I think we had two weeks' notice and that was by a piece of A4 paper through the door, where as in the past Hampshire County Council communicated with us directly.

Castleman’s Corkscrew: a walk along an old New Forest railway

These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community. We all understand it is work that needs doing and it is for the greater good but we have not been able to plan or have an understanding of what is going ahead," said Mr Jensen. In 1907, Holmsley was the arrival point of Kaiser Willhein of Germany and his cabinet, to attend a conference with Major Stuart Wortley at Highcliffe Castle. And then to top it all the hot chocolate was really poor quality and two of us left half a mug each. Unfortunately when I was eating the scone I pulled out a sizeable piece of plastic wrapping that had been baked into it. There’s nothing more quintessentially English than to partake in a delicious cream tea. What’s more, the best way to celebrate a summer staycation in the New Forest is to devour one outdoors in a beautiful garden surrounded by birdsong. For the longer walk turn right along a narrow earth path through trees and after 150 metres ignore a path off to the left.
