Description

Intended for 3 season camping the Berghaus Intrepid 1000 has offset box baffles, a wind draft tube and multiple storage pockets for comfort and convenience. Unfortunately I think this is no longer available which is a shame as it was ideal for cycle touring for two.

Camping pillows come in a handful of different shapes and sizes, each of which has their own benefits. I find that having a small square of reflective material (old emergency foil blanket) and additional foam mat really boosts warmth. These sleeping bags are used when camping with forecasts of snow, negative nightly temperatures and frost when awakening.Synthetic bags don’t like being compressed – the insulation is composed of long filaments of material – you can think of them as lots of balls of string all mixed and interwoven. Baffles are the name given to the compartments in the interior of the sleeping bags, helping to ensure that the insulation remains distributed evenly. Funds are short but I fancy having a go at making a fly-sheet style walking pole tent with an optional mozzie-net inner. In the past I have put my sleeping bag inside a bivvy bag, because I had it with me, that also helped, but it’s a bulky solution tho.

I'm using it for a hiking trip in France where I'll be staying in hostels some of the time so think it will be ideal for this. Likewise during The Yak Attack I have spent some extremely cold nights at Thorong Phedi (4450m above sea level) on The Annapurna Circuit and stayed nice and warm. Bivy bag: Borah Gear lightweight bivy - this has an inbuilt midge net and has a pullout to hang from the underside of the tarp.Doing Calder Valley way in a couple of weeks bike packing… current sleeping bag isn’t the warmest, berghaus intrepid 700 1-2 season. The best thing about this sleeping bag is the weight, it's very light + very small, so great for lightweight backpacking.

Like mentioned already, the bag seems very well made but just doesnt keep you warm enough, camped out ans the temp dropped to 10. The options really are endless and although a single sleeping bag may be the best option from a budget standpoint, different bags for different conditions is often the best way forward.

I have bought this sleeping bag before and had to send for a replacement as the stuffing in the lower part of the bag isn’t great. However re-reading and putting a tin cap domed down to stop the hot spot and ising Lard to condition the surface I cooked an egg as if it was a non-stick pan. Had this for about a year, and over time and testing and various weather conditions, I have noticed that in the summer I get incredibly sweaty in it due to the inside of the bag. During both nights of our trip l I was so cold that I could barely sleep despite wearing 2 pairs of socks, trousers, t shirt, fleece and a hoodie all whilst in my sleeping bag in the tent. Due to this reasoning, the rectangular bags are best suited to indoor and summer camping where keeping warm is less of an issue. There was quite a bit condensation on the inner of the fly but we camped beside a river and it was cold and damp so I'll forgive it that. Edited to add, have also considered the Snugpak Travelpak3 but its only available in a minging colour, which shouldn’t matter. It also lofts back in to shape very quickly after unpacking and comes supplied with a large cotton storage sack to protect the down when it's not in use for a long period. His touring blog goes back to 2004, although he has on occasion taken time off to earn money and live in a house. The average female does feel the cold more than the average male and as the comfort rating is a middle-ground for both, a couple of degrees leeway should be accounted for either way.
